今日の英語ニュースから [2023.01.24]

この番組には英語字幕がついていますが、誤りや省略が少なくありません(特に週末版は多いです)。約1時間の番組ですが、実際に英語音声をすべて聞いて、字幕の明らかな誤りなどを訂正し、気になった語句の説明などを加えて、字幕ファイルを作りました(書き加えた説明は[*   ] )。
動画サイトの字幕が変だなと思った時に、この字幕ファイルで謎が解けるかもしれません ^^

Holding left-wing views or attitudes, principally with regards to certain social justice issues or to an excessive degree.]

[32:50] And just weeks into his second term, the administration has a new target, banning public schools from teaching advanced placement African American studies, [* advanced placement = 成績優秀な高校生に大学レベルの科目を履修させること。または、その教科。]

[33:17] Today, Governor DeSantis said teaching Black history is required in Florida schools, but added this course amounted to indoctrination [* = (教義や主義を教え込む)洗脳].

[33:25] GOV. RON DESANTIS: This course on Black history, what are -- one of -- what's one of the lessons about? Queer theory. [* queer theory = an approach to literary and cultural study that rejects traditional categories of gender and sexuality (Merriam-Webster)]

[33:42] And so when you look to see they have stuff about intersectionality, abolishing prisons, that's a political agenda. [*intersectionality = the complex, cumulative way in which the effects of multiple forms of discrimination (such as racism, sexism, and classism) combine, overlap, or intersect especially in the experiences of marginalized individuals or groups (Merriam-Webster)]

[34:04] And it's just the latest battle in DeSantis' culture war, taking aim at the teaching of race and schools, how teachers can talk about gender identity, whether trans [* trans = transgender] kids can play on sports teams, and COVID vaccine requirements.

[34:20] GOV. RON DESANTIS: We are not a sanctuary state. [* sanctuary state < sanctuary city = In the United States and Canada, a city that allows undocumented immigrants to live and work without being arrested and deported by local authorities.]

[35:42] This is politics 101 [* 101 = 初級講座、基礎講座] inside our classrooms.

[36:21] it focuses on the reparations movement [* 奴隷制度の被害者やその子孫に対して賠償を行うべきだとする運動],

[39:34] Well, it's a -- it's not a dog whistle. [* dog whislte = (politics) an expression or statement that has a secondary meaning intended to be understood only by a particular group of people] This is a loud bullhorn of a call to say that African American history doesn't matter.
