NY州クオモ知事・１１１日間の新型コロナ対策を振り返ってのメッセージ（書き起こし／意訳）

The first day I went before the people of NY state,and I said ''I'm going to tell the truth. I'm going to tell you the facts the way I know it. We are going to fight every way we can to save every life that we can."

I did one thing right as a governor that i'm proud of. I got the people involved this situation to a  greater degree than they have  been involved  provably in modern history. This was of such a magnitude that unless people engaged, and understood, and bought into this , government was impotent.

People had to understand the facts and people had to engage in governing themselves in a way they hadn't in decades.

In ten years from now, you'll be talking about today to your children or your grandchildren, and you'll shed a tear because you will remember the lives lost the faces,and you'll remember the names,and you'll  remember how hard we worked,and that we still lost loved ones.

We changed that trajectory. I didn't even know it was possible at one time. It's about what people decide to do and what people have decided to do.

They have  brought this infection rate down. Nurses. doctors did a phenomenal job. First responders did a phenomenal job. Essential workers did a Phenomenal job.But that the rate came down, because people changed their behavior.

You have 19 million people in New York. They decided on the facts that they would comply. And they've done things I would have never dreamed that they would do. We have the lowest rate of transmission. The phased reopening is working. Stay the course. And we all have to stay responsible.

Because we are New York Tough and I love New York because loves you.

ニューヨーク州に住む人々の前にでる会見、最初の日に私はこう言った。「私は事実を話そうと思うし、私が知り得るあらゆる真実を伝える。そして救える限り全ての命を救う為にあらゆる努力をする。」と。私は、知事としてたった１つだけ誇れることがある。おそらくは近代稀にみるほどの度合いで皆にこの問題について関わってもらったのだ。これは偉大なことであって、もし皆が関わり、理解し、ここまでやってくれることがなければ、州政府はただ無力であった。ここ数十年経験したほどのないまでの次元で、皆現実を理解する必要があったし、自身を律して関わることが必要であった。これから将来10年のうちに自分の子や孫に、今日のことを語るとき、あなた方は皆涙を流すでしょう、命を失った人々の顔や名前を思い出すと同時に我々がどれだけ必死に取り組んだかを思い出しながら、それでも大切な人達を失ってしまったと。

我々は予想されていた（最悪の）軌道を変えてみせた。私も一時はそれができるとは本当に思ってはいなかった。皆がやろうと決めて、成し遂げたことなのだ。感染率を下げてくれたのはこのような人達のおかげだ。

看護師・医師たちは偉業を成し遂げた。救急隊たちは偉業を成し遂げた。暮らしを支えてくれたエッセンシャルワーカーたちは偉業を成し遂げた。でも、感染率がさがった大きな要因は、皆が生活習慣を変えてくれたからだ。

ここニューヨークに190万人の人々がいる。皆現実を前にしてどう動くべきか従った。そして私が夢にも思っていなかったことを成し遂げてくれた。ニューヨークの感染率は最も低い水準にある。経済活動再開のときが来た。このままいこう。我々に課せられた責任を果たしていこう。

ニューヨークは逞しい。皆が好きなこのニューヨークが私も好きなんだ。
