We are looking for new kyodo 20-30 participants! -What are our plans for the 2021 Beyond Invisible Borders?-

Hello, I am Yano, Project Director of Beyond Invisible Borders. I am writing to announce our new plans for the project scheduled to take place in the 2021 fiscal year.

In the 2021 fiscal year, we would like to rethink and reflect on the purpose of this project once again, and focus on activities about the “invisible borders”, in order to further stress the original message of the project.

Simply put, this fiscal year’s key points will be:

1) To reflect on the original purpose of the project, and focus on the “invisible borders in Tokyo” as a theme of our activities and productions.
2) To make our community more open and accessible so it will be easier for anyone to participate in and access.

We would like to give importance to the two points mentioned above, and further clarify the message of this project.

■About kyodo 20_30

Themes and Goals:
Based on our hypothesis: “Tokyo has invisible borders”, kyodo 20_30 aims to recruit “players” aged between 20 and 30 who will be in charge of our society in 2030, in order to reflect on each player’s views on such invisible borders and try to take action.

We endeavor to create an organic community (kyodo-tai) in which various people regardless of nationality, language, and cultural backgrounds can collaborate (kyodo) and interact with each other, based in Kyodo, Setagaya.

** The phrase “invisible borders” here has the following two aspects:

1) Borders and walls/obstacles that many foreign residents as well as people with foreign backgrounds must have.
2) Borders and walls/obstacles that are “invisible”, in a sense that foreign residents as well as people with foreign backgrounds feel othered because Japanese people are either willfully blind about them or making them invisible.

What We Will Do:

【June 2021 - August 2021】
<Getting to Know>
We will talk with various people about “Invisible Borders”. For example, we will learn about topics like: “why were those borders born?”, and “what kind of borders are creating what kind of problems?”
