[Medical Waste Reduction Project] Launched!

Hello! As part of the "Nomachi Accelerator Program," the "Medical Waste Reduction Project" has been launched! The Nomachi Accelerator Program provides ongoing support to individuals who aspire to start their businesses with a high level of enthusiasm so that they can realize their ideas and lay the foundation for success. This time, we will introduce the newly launched project, so please read to the end!

Project Outline

The “garbage problem” is one of the most serious social issues in the world.
In Japan, garbage generated in various situations such as food loss, marine plastic, and disaster waste has been attracting attention, and one of the places where a large amount of garbage is disposed of is in the medical field. We have launched a team to focus on waste generated at medical facilities and to realize “resource recycling at medical facilities” that is friendly to both the medical staff and the environment! The name of the team is “SMILE ROUTE”.

Since entering university, I have been exploring the possibilities of nursing from many different perspectives under the motto "Take on a new challenge of nursing + something" Through university exercises and practical training at hospitals, I witnessed the large amount of waste generated at medical facilities, and began to consider how to solve this problem seriously. Therefore, I launched this project, and together with my colleagues who are strong in resource recycling, we will work as a team to solve the garbage problem in the medical field.

I am strongly aware of environmental issues, especially after visiting China in junior high school. In high school, I experienced firsthand the importance of “circulation” by cooperating in the production of an installation on recycling-oriented agriculture, and by visiting Teshima, once known as “Garbage Island,” and Kamikatsu, a leading example of resource circulation in Japan. As I have been working in the area of Green Transformation (GX) since entering university, I see this project as an opportunity to put it into practice, and we will work passionately as a team to realize sustainable healthcare and a reduction in environmental burdens.

Future Work

We are planning to visit various places to deepen our understanding of the issues, such as “what is actually happening on the ground” and “where can we intervene effectively"
