Essay
Maori language will be added to Duolingo soon. Duolingo is the most famous service for learning many different languages which was published on the 19th of June 2012. I used to study English, Chinese and Spanish with Duolingo. Is it necessary to add Maori to Duolingo?
The beginner course of Maori was expected to be added at end of December. According to news website Herald, it was delayed because of Covid. Maori language is a traditional language of New Zealand which is now disappearing, This is because Maori learn English instead of Maori. Most Maori parents teach English to their children instead of Maori because they speak more English than Maori. According to the Maori Language Information website (2013), only 50,000 people can speak Maori. If no one is going to study Maori, the language will be extinct soon. We must do something about it. I think that the developers of Duolingo planned to add Maori was to help the situation and increase the number of people who can speak in Maori.
Duolingo is doing really great job because it is helping many people learn many different languages for free. It is necessary to add Maori language to Duolingo. I hope Maori language will be added to Duolingo on 2021.
