今回のテーマは「父の日」です。

【父の日】

父の日は日頃仕事などを頑張っているお父さんに向けて感謝を伝える日です。父の日は日本だけではなく、アメリカ・カナダ・イギリス・フランスなど海外でも行われています。日本では父の日は6月の第3日曜日で、海外の国々でも父の日を6月第3日曜日に設定している国は多く存在します。

父の日は、1909年のアメリカでソノラ・スマート・ドッドという女性が父の日を作ることを願ったことが由来と言われています。ソノラの父は南北戦争から復員した後、男手一つでソノラを含む6人の子どもたちを育て上げました。ソノラの父の誕生月が6月だったことから父の日の式典が1910年6月19日に初めて行われました。

一般的に母の日は赤色のカーネーションを贈りますが、父の日には黄色のバラを贈ります。日本でも父の日に黄色のバラを贈り、お父さんへの愛情や尊敬を伝える慣習があります。父の日にはもともとバラを贈る慣習があるものの、黄色のバラを贈ることは日本独自の慣習です。

父の日には家族で楽しく過ごす慣習もあります。父の日に家族で過ごす場合は、食事や旅行をすることが人気です。お父さんの好きな食べ物を食べに行ったり、家族で特別メニューを作ったりするのもおすすめの過ごし方です。家族みんなが健康で幸せに暮らせることを感謝しながら、父の日をお祝いするのが理想的な過ごし方と言えるでしょう。

Father's Day is said to have originated in the United States in 1909, when a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd wished to create a Father's Day. Sonora's father raised six children, including Sonora, single-handedly after being demobilized from the Civil War. Since Sonora's father's birth month was June, the first Father's Day ceremony was held on June 19, 1910.

Generally, red carnations are given on Mother's Day, but yellow roses are given on Father's Day. In Japan, it is also customary to give yellow roses on Father's Day to show love and respect to fathers. Although the custom of giving roses on Father's Day has always been customary, the giving of yellow roses is a uniquely Japanese practice.

It is also customary to spend Father's Day with family members in a happy atmosphere. A popular way to spend time with family on Father's Day is to have a meal or take a trip. Going out to eat your father's favorite food or cooking a special menu together as a family is also a recommended way to spend the day. The ideal way to spend Father's Day is to celebrate while thanking everyone in the family for a healthy and happy life.
