ピーカフェの歩み

ピーカフェは今年で営業して16年になります。

当店の運営母体であるヒューマンネットワークピアは、障害のある方の生活支援ボランティアグループを始まりとして1998年頃から活動しています。
2001年にNPO法人格を取得し、現在は障害のある方への生活支援を主な事業としています。

その中の障害デイサービス「みんなの家」での活動の一つとして、2006年頃から手織りを始めました。2007年、その織られた反物を使った製品販売をかねたアンテナショップとしてP-cafe(ピーカフェ)をオープン。

初期のピーカフェは、カフェといってもメニューも少なく、主な商品は有機栽培のコーヒー豆やマーマレードジャム、自社製品のさをり織りのアイテム。

開店当初から今までずっと、織るところから商品のデザイン・縫製まで全て一貫して自社で行っています。

ですが「あれもやりたい」「こうしたらいいのでは？」など皆の意見で、みるみるうちに日替わりランチやスリランカカレー、デザートが増え、あっという間にカフェらしくなっていきます。
下関界隈で活動する作家さんの作品を置いたり、フェアトレードの食品や雑貨を入れたり、はたまた手織りに合わせるお洋服をと婦人服を販売したり…いろいろなものがある雑多なお店へ。
食事は好評で常連のお客様も増えたのですが、調理にかかりきりになり、手織り商品やピアについてお伝えする時間がとれなくなっていきました。

障害デイサービス「みんなの家」の移転を機に、ピーカフェもその近くへ移転、手織り商品に特化し縫製場も一緒にして、その場でオーダーも可能な店舗になりました。名前もP-cafeからtailor P-cafe(テーラーピーカフェ)へ。
この年から下関駅にある下関大丸(現在の大丸下関店)にて年に一度、展示販売を行うようになりました。2019年が最後となってしまいましたが、7年間毎年出展した間にずいぶんファンの方も増えました。

現在、販売は主にオンランショップが主となっております。

History of  P-cafe

Our management body, Human Network Peer, started as a volunteer group to support the lives of people with disabilities and has been active since around 1998.
In 2001, we acquired a non-profit organization status, and our main business is now to support the lives of people with disabilities.

In 2007, we opened P-cafe as an antenna shop selling products made from the Saori-weaving fabrics.

In the early days, P-cafe was called a café, meaning "a place where people gather" with a small menu. The main products are organic coffee beans, marmalade jam and their own Saori- weaving items.

Since the opening of the shop, we have been doing everything from hand-weaving to product design and sewing in-house.

However, in no time at all, the cafe is becoming more and more like a café, offered daily lunches, Sri Lankan curries and desserts.
We put commissioned works by artists, fair trade food and sundries, women's clothing to go along with Saori-weaving goods, and many other things in the store.
The food was well received and the number of regular customers increased, but we became so consumed with food and drink that our ability to tell people about our products and concept was weakened.

When we moved to a new location near "Minna no Ie", a day care service for the handicapped, we specialized in Saori-weaving products and combined our sewing shop, which had been located elsewhere, into a shop where customers could place orders on the spot. We also changed our name from P-cafe to Tailor P-cafe.
In this year, we started to exhibit and sell our products once a year in Shimonoseki Daimaru departmen store. 2019 was the last year for us to exhibit our products, but our fans have increased over the last seven years.

At present, we mainly sell our products at the web shop.
