【Current Topics Vol.4】About Stocking up in Japan.

I would like to talk about how COVID-19 makes people are panic buying and stocking up on supermarket. 

Which is also happens in Japan. I have seen some comments from overseas on news And some says it is not like usual japanese to be.
What do you think about it?

Well as you know it is required from government like "Don't go outside if you have no reason" **but if you need essential supplies to buy, you have to right ? **But mostly there is out of stock in the supermarket now.

Everyone must be surprised by this happens. I guess “stocking up” is to be happened before this corona was Typhoon 19 hit the east country on 12th Oct 2019 in Japan.( typhoon-fueled flood damaged to famous hot spring area Hakone, and in Nagano, Fukushima and Tokyo.)
Before the friday night when I dropped by supermarket on my way home from work. I saw there was no food, essential stuff and anything I need in the supermarket. Yes,** it was happened by stocking up.**

One of the reasons why this happen spreading out because it could be happening power outage in our area for 2-3 days in a row.
I know what it means but I didn’t feel like buying a lot of stuff more than I needed. So now it is hard situation as well. (Thank my mum for sending some stuff I really needed)

Well, what is going to be happening in Japan now ? I feel a lot of Japanese people are loosing their mind for other people.** I mean normal sprits they are loosing now.**

But actually I can’t say anything about that. Because I also buy a lot of food for a couple of days just in case. I think current foods that I have is enough to spend time at home for a while **but afraid of it cuz my work shift I have no chance to buy on daytime so I have to buy some stuff only at night time. **So It seems like I am stocking up..

Stocking up more than you needed might be making happen to waste a lot of stuff at the end. Government said “There are still many supplies” however it is not right.
I think we have to be more attentive to everything we can see now . That is more essential.

【日本語】買いだめと国民性

コロナウイルスによる「買いだめ騒動」について、「日本人らしくない」という海外からのコメントを目にしましたが、皆さんはどう思いますか？

コロナウイルスの影響で、不要不急の外出は避けるように言われていますね。ネット上では「買いだめ」が騒がれていますね。東京都に住んでいる皆さんの中には、スーパーが空っぽになって驚かれた人もいるのではないでしょうか。

個人的な感覚ではありますが、コロナウイルスの前に「買いだめ」が騒ぎになったのは、2019年10月12日（土）に関東地方に上陸した台風19号です。（温泉で有名な箱根や、長野県、東京都、福島県などでは大規模な水害などが発生しました。）

台風が来る前日の金曜日の夜、仕事終わりに最寄りのスーパーに寄ると、食料品は何もありませんでした。（もちろん、今と異なり、マスクやトイレットペーパー、石鹸などはありました。）この買いだめは、大型台風のために「２～３日停電が起きるかもしれない」という話が広まったのも一つの理由でしょう。

「日頃の備えが大事」ということが分かりますよね。そう経験したはずなのに、必要以上の物を買いたくないという気持ちがあったので、今回も苦労しました…。（田舎のお母さん、トイレットペーパーを送ってくれてありがとう。）

さて、日本はどうなってしまうのでしょう。「おもてなし」という言葉でも話題になった日本。他人のことを気遣い、皆で協力しあうような国民性が崩壊している気もします。

こんなことを言っている私でさえ、自分の生活のためにお肉や野菜を数日分買いました。数日家で過ごしても十分な程度の買い物だと思っていますが、仕事ややむを得ない事情で、夜中にしか買い物に行けないという人からしたら、私の行為も「買いだめ」と思われるのでしょうか…。

「買いだめ」は、無駄な廃棄物につながるかもしれません。「物資はたくさんある」という政府の言葉もあります。しかしながら、このことを鵜呑みにして、楽観視してもいけないでしょう。必要な分だけ買うという、日本人が得意とする「気配り」をもう一度見つめなおさないといけないですよね。
