「もののあわれ」を感じるゴルゴ１３

前に書いた記事で、週１回、近所のネットカフェに行っていると書きました。この夏は暑い日が続き、日向を歩くのが億劫で、行く頻度が減りました。

私は漫画を読み飛ばさずじっくり読むので、３時間程度はネットカフェに滞在してしまいます。
その時、ビッグコミックやビッグコミックオリジナルなどの漫画雑誌は欠かさず読みます。
たぶん、これらに連載している漫画家や原作者の平均年齢は、他の漫画雑誌よりもかなり高いと思います。

ちばてつや、やまさき十三、北見けんいちさんたちは８０歳代です。７０歳代では、永井豪、かざま鋭二、坂田信弘、西岸良平、弘兼憲史さんたちがいます。

このような年齢になっても、彼らはずっと書き（描き）続けているということに感心します。『釣りバカ日誌』では、つい最近、鯉太郎君に妹が生まれました。なんともスローペースな漫画です。

私は久しぶりにこれらの雑誌を読んでいるのですが、ずっと読み続けている読者も多いだろうと思います。

さいとうたかをさんは去年に亡くなりましたが、彼の作品『ゴルゴ１３』の連載は続いています。第６２１話は、「ベテランズ・デイ」という題でした。

これは、アメリカ合衆国の祝日で、復員軍人の日のことです。復員軍人を称える日ということで、各地で元軍人たちがパレードに参加します。

ゴルゴ１３の今回の仕事は、パレードで行進する一人の復員軍人の狙撃でした。ソンミ村虐殺事件のころに、そのアメリカ兵に性的暴行を受けて自害した妹の仇を取ってほしいという依頼をゴルゴ１３が受けたという設定です。

ゴルゴ１３は依頼を受ける時は必ず依頼者本人と話すのですが、今回の待ち合わせ場所は、市営運動場でした。シャツを着た、高齢のヴィエトナム人男性の後ろに、背広姿のゴルゴ１３が座り、振り向かずに話すように指示します。

周りに誰もいないので、物騒な内容を聞かれないという判断なのでしょうが、競技場で運動している人から見ると不自然な風景です。親しければ横に並ぶだろうし、真後ろに座るのはかえって目立ちそうです。

その運動場では、標的の男が、行進の練習をしていて、ゴルゴ１３は、男の顔と行進時の位置を確認します。その後の行進の当日、ゴルゴ１３はこともなげに仕事を終えるのですが、この話の印象深いのは最後のシーンです。

仕事を終えたゴルゴ１３が空港に来ると、はだしの老人が搭乗カウンターで係員と会話しています。その老人が今回の依頼者だったのですが、認知症のため、ゴルゴ１３の顔を見ても、まったく何も思い出せません。老人が落とした硬貨をゴルゴ１３が拾って渡すと、彼はありがとうと言って去っていきます。
それを見たゴルゴ１３は、サングラスをかけて搭乗カウンターに向かいます。

物語の冒頭で、この老人は息子夫婦と話すのですが、そのときから認知症の兆候は表れています。ゴルゴ１３の狙撃を見届けた後、病気が急激に進行したという設定ですが、ちょっと早すぎるような気がします。復員兵の狙撃から、空港に来るまでの間、ゴルゴ１３は他の仕事をしていたのかもしれません。

老人の姿を見た時のゴルゴ１３の表情が微妙で、感情を露わにする直前のように見えます。サングラスをかけたのは目に浮かぶ感情の起伏を他人に見せないためなのでしょう。

「知情意」という言葉があります。ゴルゴ１３があるときはベテラン技師のようにふるまえたり、今回の件では、ヴィエトナム戦争のことにも詳しく、博覧強記で知能は高いです。また意思の強さは、これまで何度も表現されています。

「情」に関しては、第９話 「南仏海岸（コートダジュール）」で、ゴルゴ１３と対決した盲人の殺し屋を射殺した後、残された盲導犬も、殺す必要はないのに（主人をなくした犬を哀れんだのか）射殺するシーンを思い出します。第８１話「 海へ向かうエバ」において、一夜を共にした女殺し屋の暗殺を引き受けた時の表情のように、彼は感情を持たない男というわけではないのですが、描写はあくまでクールでした。

この第６２１話は、感情を露わにしてしまいそうな自分を隠すふるまいを見せることで、ゴルゴ１３の「情」を巧みに表現しています。この場面は劇画だからこそ印象に残ると思います。

さいとうたかをさんが亡くなった後、この作品がどう変わるだろうかと思っていたのですが、これまでよりも「情」を強調した話が増えてきそうな感じがします。その点で、ゴルゴ１３の血をもらった「娘」ファネット・ゴベールがどうなっていくかも気になるので、この物語はまだまだ続いてほしいです。

Golgo 13 feels "Mono no Aware" (a sensitivity to ephemera)

In a previous article, I wrote that I go to a neighborhood internet cafe once a week. The hot days continued this summer, and walking in the sun was troublesome, so I went less frequently.

I read the manga carefully without skipping it, so I end up staying at an internet cafe for about 3 hours. At that time, I read comic magazines such as Big Comic and Big Comic Original without fail. I think the average age of the manga artists and original authors who publish in these magazines is probably much higher than in other manga magazines.

Tetsuya Chiba, Juzo Yamasaki, and Kenichi Kitami are all in their 80s. In the 70s, there are Go Nagai, Eiji Kazama, Nobuhiro Sakata, Ryohei Nishigishi, and Kenshi Hirokane.

I am impressed that they continue to write (draw) even at such an age. In "Tsuribaka Nisshi" Koitaro recently had a younger sister. It's a very slow-paced manga.

It's been a long time since I've read these magazines, but I'm sure there are many readers who continue to read them.

Takao Saito passed away last year, but his work "Golgo 13" continues to be serialized. Episode 621 was titled "Veterans Day".

This is a national holiday in the United States of America and marks Veterans Day. Former soldiers participate in parades all over the country as a day to honor veterans.

Golgo 13's task this time was to snipe a single veteran marching in a parade.
Golgo 13 received a request to take revenge on a requester's sister, who was sexually assaulted by the American soldier and committed suicide around the time of the Lai Mi village massacre.

When Golgo 13 receives a request, he always talks to the requester himself, but this time the meeting place was the municipal athletic field. Golgo 13 in a suit sits behind an elderly Vietnamese man in a shirt and tells him to speak without turning around.

Since there is no one around, they probably decided that no one would listen to the dangerous content, but from the perspective of people exercising in the stadium, it is an unnatural scene. If two men are close to each other, they will line up side by side, and sitting behind one person will rather stand out.

At the playground, the target man is practicing marching, and Golgo 13 checks the man's face and position during the march. After that, on the day of the march, Golgo 13 finishes his work without a hitch, but the last scene of this story is impressive.

When Golgo 13 comes to the airport after finishing his work, a barefoot old man is talking to the attendant at the boarding counter. The old man was the client this time, but because of dementia, even if he saw Golgo 13's face, he couldn't remember anything at all.
When Golgo 13 picks up the coin that the old man dropped and gives it to him, the old man says thank you to Golgo 13 and leaves. Seeing that, Golgo 13 puts on sunglasses and heads for the boarding counter.

At the beginning of the story, the old man talks to his son and his wife, and from that point on, the signs of dementia are showing. After he witnessed Golgo 13's sniping, his illness progressed rapidly, but I feel like he's a little too early. Between sniping veterans and arriving at the airport, Golgo 13 may have been doing other things.

Golgo 13's expression when he sees the old man is subtle, and it looks like he's about to reveal his emotions. The reason why he wears sunglasses is to hide the emotional ups and downs in his eyes.

There is a word called "intellect, emotion and volition". When there is Golgo 13, he acts like a veteran engineer, and in this case, he is well-versed in the Vietnam War, and has a high intelligence with extensive knowledge. And strength of will has been expressed many times before.

Regarding "emotion", in episode 9 "Southern French Coast (Cote d'Azur)", after shooting the blind killer who confronted Golgo 13, he also shot the remaining guide dog, even though it was not necessary to kill it.
In episode 81, "Eva Heading to the Sea," Golgo 13's behavior in assassinating the woman killer with whom he spent the night is not that Golgo 13 is emotionless, but his portrayal is just cool. 

This chapter 621 skillfully expresses Golgo 13's "emotion" by showing behavior that hides himself, which is likely to expose his emotions. I think that this scene will leave an impression because it is a graphic novel.

I was wondering how this work would change after Takao Saito passed away, but I feel like there will be more stories that emphasize "emotion" than before. In that respect, I'm curious about what will happen to the "daughter" Fanette Gobert who received the blood of Golgo 13, so I hope this story continues.
