たばこの煙について８割以上の人が不快に思っているというアンケート結果
以前、この記事で、こう書きました。
最近、煙草などの匂いに敏感になりました。
歩きながら煙草を吸う人が減ったのと、喫煙できる場所が減ったのが、その理由ではないかと思います。
外を歩いていて、人がいない場所で、煙草の匂いがすると、ここで誰かが煙草を吸っていたんだろう、とわかるようになりました。
私と同じように思う人が増えているのかもしれません。
１５５６人に、「喫煙者のたばこの煙について不快に思いますか」と聞くと、「不快に思う」「どちらかといえば不快に思う」とこたえた人の合計は８３．３％。２０１９年７月の前回調査は７８．４％だった。
内閣府は、こんな調査もするのでした。
私が小学生の頃は、列車の座席に灰皿が付いていました。
飛行機に初めて乗ったのは１９８０年代でしたが、その頃の旅客機の座席にも灰皿が備わっていました。
若い世代の人たちには信じられないでしょうね。列車や飛行機の中で煙草を吸っていた人が大勢いたことを。
ジョン・ル・カレの小説『ティンカー、テイラー、ソルジャー、スパイ』を元にして作られた映画『裏切りのサーカス』で描かれた、１９６０年代のイギリスの諜報機関のオフィスもまた、煙草の煙がもうもうとたちこめていました。
そこまでひどくはありませんが、私の働いていたオフィスでは、１９９０年代初頭まで、自分の席で煙草を吸うことができました。
海外旅行のお土産として、煙草を職場で配る人さえもいた時代です。
その後、分煙ということで、煙草を吸うための部屋が作られたのですが、「大事なことはたばこ部屋で決まる」と言われたものです。
さらにその後は、煙草を吸う時間は勤務時間か、休憩時間なのか、という議論もあったと思います。
今では煙草を吸える場所がオフィスから無くなりました。
リモートワークのおかげで、煙草を吸えるようになって喜んでいる人もいるでしょう。
上の記事によると、２０１９年時点で男性の喫煙率は27.1%、女性の喫煙率は7.6%、全体では16.7%だそうです。それよりも新しい統計は見つかりませんでした。
ただ、紙巻きたばこの販売本数は、２０１９年以降も減っています。
一方で、この報告書によると、加熱式たばこを吸う人が増えています。
たばこを吸えることを売りにして客を集める飲食店はまだあります。
たまたま入った飲食店も、喫煙を許可していましたが、加熱式たばこを吸う人が目につきました。加熱式たばこが、紙巻きたばこより”まし”かどうかについて、わかっていないそうですが、身体にいいものだとは思えません。
加熱式たばこに含まれている化学物質を長期間体内に吸い込む行為が、将来どのような病気を引き起こすのかまだ十分に分かっていません。（中略）
現時点で言えることは、呼吸器内科医としては、「そもそも余計なものをデリケートな肺に吸わせないでほしい」ということです。
肺は、粘膜むき出しの繊細な臓器なのです。紙巻きたばこであろうと加熱式たばこであろうと、とにかく異物を肺に吸わせないのが正解です。
やはり、たばこの煙のそばには近づきたくないです。
タイトル写真は、５０本入りピース缶。Peace（平和）という名称と、オリーブの葉をくわえた鳩のデザインが、印象的です。このデザインの効果で、発売当時はよく売れたそうです。今でも１５００円で売られています。
平和はお金で買えないできないでしょうけれど。

When 1,556 people were asked, "Do you feel uncomfortable about the smoke of smokers?" 83.3% of the respondents answered, "I feel uncomfortable" or "I feel somewhat uncomfortable."
The previous survey in July 2019 was 78.4%.

When I was in elementary school, train seats had ashtrays. The first time I flew on an airplane was in the 1980s, and even airplane seats had ashtrays.
Younger generations won't believe it. Many people smoked on trains and planes.
The British intelligence offices of the 1960s, depicted in the film based on John le Carré's novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, are also filled with cigarette smoke.
It's not that bad, but in the office where I worked, until the early 1990s, workers were allowed to smoke at their desks. It was a time when some people even handed out cigarettes at work as souvenirs of traveling abroad.
After that, a separate smoking room was built for smoking, but there was a rumor that "important things are decided in the smoking room''.
After that, I think there was a discussion about whether the time to smoke was during working hours or during breaks.
Now there are no places in the office where you can smoke. Some of you may be happy to be able to smoke cigarettes thanks to remote work.
According to the above article, as of 2019, the male smoking rate is 27.1%, the female smoking rate is 7.6%, and the overall smoking rate is 16.7%. No newer statistics were found.
However, the number of cigarettes sold has been declining since 2019.
On the other hand, according to this report, the number of people who smoke heat-not-burn cigarettes is increasing.
There are still restaurants that attract customers by advertising that they can smoke. The restaurant I happened to enter also allowed smoking, but I noticed people smoking heat-not-burn cigarettes.
I don't know if heated tobacco is "better" than cigarettes, but I don't think it's good for you.
It is not yet fully understood what kind of diseases long-term inhalation of chemicals contained in heated tobacco will cause in the future. (Omitted)
What I can say at this point is that, as a respiratory physician, I do not want patients to inhale extraneous substances into their delicate lungs in the first place.
The lungs are delicate organs with exposed mucous membranes. Whether it's a cigarette or a heat-not-burn cigarette, the correct answer is to avoid breathing foreign objects into your lungs.
After all, I don't want to get close to cigarette smoke.
