報土寺は今川氏そして徳川家ともゆかりが深い由緒ある寺院です。葵の御紋を寺院の建物に使うことも許され、以前、屋根には葵の御門が入った鬼瓦がありました。2009年8月の地震の後、屋根を銅板葺きにふき変えましたが、この鬼瓦だけは本堂の前に置かれてあります。

Hodoji Temple
報土寺
Hodoji Temple is located in Miyagasaki-cho near Shizuoka Sengen Shrine.
報土寺は静岡市浅間神社の近く、宮ヶ崎町にあります。
It was established in 1552 when the Imagawa family ruled the Suruga region.
今川氏が駿河地方を治めていた1552年に、その寺院は創建されました。
The founder was a famous priest of a prestigious Buddhist temple called Komyoji Temple in Kamakura and he returned to his hometown Sumpu to establish this temple.
創設者は鎌倉の名門寺院、光明寺の有名な仏僧で、故郷の駿府に帰ってきて、この寺院を創建しました。
Historical documents state that at that time, Reizei Tamekazu, a nobleman escaping battles from Kyoto and a famous waka poet, sometimes held waka-reading parties in this temple.
歴史書によると、当時、戦の多い京都から逃れてきた公家で有名な歌人の冷泉為和が時々この寺院で歌会を催しました。
This temple contributed to the improvement of the waka poetry culture in Sumpu.
報土寺は駿府の和歌文化の向上に貢献しました。
In the Edo period, Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu often visited this temple when he lived in Sumpu Castle.
江戸時代には、徳川家康公が駿府城に住んでいた時には、しばしばこの寺院を訪れました。
On August 15, 1613, a Buddhist ceremony for the 50th anniversary of Matsudaira Hirotada's (Lord Ieyasu’s father) passing was held there.
1613年の8月15日、家康公の父である松平広忠の50回忌の法要が開かれました。
Lord Ieyasu and the 2nd shogun Tokugawa Hidetada also attended the ceremony.
家康公と二代将軍の徳川秀忠もこの式に出席しました。
Kan-chi Kokushi, the prestigious Buddhist priest, was invited from Zojoji Temple in Edo, which is the Tokugawa family’s temple and he performed the ceremony.
高名な仏僧の観智国師が、徳川家の菩提寺である江戸の増上寺より招かれました。
Kan-chi Kokushi, the head priest of Zojoji temple and local priests in Sumpu held dialogues on the Pure Land in front of Lord Ieyasu.
増上寺のご住職である観智国師そして駿府の僧たちは家康公の御前で浄土の法問を行いました。
Graves of local prestigious people were also located in Hodoji Temple.
地元の有力者のお墓も報土寺にありました。
The graveyard of Matsuki families, who were powerful merchants in Sumpu is still in this temple.
駿府の有力な商人である松木家のお墓は今でもこの寺院にあります。
