20071215鹿児島県立農業大学校へ出かける

日置市内では一番豪華な建物だと思われるこの鹿児島県立農業大学校。以前は車に乗ったまま見学しただけでしたが、学園祭（収穫祭？）が行われていると聞いて出かけてきました。大学生が作った作物や肉などの販売の他、女装コンテストなども行われていました。中でも写真のトラクターに試乗できるというイベントは、子供達に大人気でした。食糧自給率が低い事が問題視されている日本ですが、まずは農業に興味を持ってもらう事が大切だと思います。（自給率40%と言われているが、食べ残しなどが多い、逆に摂取しすぎなどの問題を考慮すると実質60%くらいではないか・・）県はそのためにいろんな政策を打ち出している様ですが、ほとんどは都会からのIターン希望者向け、団塊の世代向け、という内容が多いのではないかという気がします。それはそれでいいのですが、（今回の様に）農業用車両の格好良さをアピールしたり、カリスマ的存在の農家をヒーロー、ヒロインにするなど、もっと解りやすい子供に向けたポップな思考が求められていると思うんです。この立派な施設が、全国的にそのような流れを先導する場所になって欲しいと願っています。

随分と前の記事ですが、今週NHKで、食料クライシスに関する番組がありました。このままの食料システムで世界を回すと、あと10年で限界を迎えるそうです。キーワードの一つに、大規模農家から「小さな農業」への転向も上がっていました。僕が、今暮らしているような場所では人口が減り、耕作放棄地や荒れた山林が目立つようになっています。一刻も早く、田舎の暮らしに目を向けて、小さな暮らしを実現させる人が増えて欲しい。折角、農業大学校があるのですから、近隣にある道の駅と食堂でコラボレーションするとか、あるいは美術学部を増設するなどの工夫は出来そうです。農業と美術って、ものすごく相性がいいと思うんですよ。

I hope that this magnificent facility will become a place that leads such a trend nationwide.

20210211 Postscript

This is a long time ago, but there was a program on NHK this week about the food crisis. It said that if we continue to run the world with the current food system, we will reach the limit in 10 years. One of the key words mentioned was the shift from large-scale farming to "small-scale farming". In places like where I am living now, the population is decreasing and abandoned land and rough forests are becoming more and more prominent. I would like to see more and more people turn their attention to rural life and realize a small life as soon as possible. Since we have an agricultural college, we could collaborate with the nearby roadside station on the cafeteria, or add an art department. I think that agriculture and art go together very well.
