【Event Report⑮】 Preparing for the Gather. Town (of Online Learning Commons)!

    Hello everyone!
    This is the Support Desk of Central Library.

    What do you imagine when hearing the word "e-library"?
    Searching, viewing, and lending electronic literature? Wouldn't it be more 
    exciting if, in addition to these services, communication between people          also became possible in an e-library?

    This spring, we are going to try the Online Learning Commons at Gather.        Town. (Preparation is in progress…)

    In this article, let me to give a quick overview before the opening of
Online  Learning Commons.

What is Gather. Town?

 Gather. Town is an online space where allows you to operate an avatar to       move around a flat map while talking to people nearby.
Oral conversation is also possible here. You can enjoy communication             which is similar to that in real spaces, such as the voice becoming quieter       when the distance between avatars increase.

 While Avatars (like the one below) are automatically distributed, you can       change the name, hairstyle, clothes, etc. (The yellow-green hair really              stands  out ,www)

By this project, we aim to digitize the Learning Commons of NU Library,         such as the support desk and group study spaces!   
Right now, the Online Learning Commons looks like this. We created a          space named “NU-Library 2F”, and divide it into different function areas,         such as the seminar room and support desk, by painting them eye- catching  colors.

  The manual above may help you learn basic operations of Gather. Town.
  Please have a check on it before entering.

 Here at Online Learning Commons, we are aiming to create a space where   many people can interact and learn.

 When visiting the Online Learning Commons, you can use any name you   prefer (nickname, etc.) and decide to set the camera on/off according to   your  personal preference!
 Please feel free to come and play together!

 We are also going to use Gather for our first workshop by Minecraft of Let's   Talk Series (for NU students).
 If you are interested in that, we would be happy to meet you in this online   workshop.
