#Config2023 気になったセッション紹介

飛ぶ鳥落とした勢いのFigmaの年次デザインイベント、Config2023まで2週間になりました。チケットはゲット済み、あとは渡米のため会社側とスケジュール調整のみ(まだしてない。ぜんぜん You're all set! じゃないw

TL;DR

長っ! まじで too long; didn't read!

本題。改めてじっくりプログラム見ると、I/O並までではないけど、実は同じ時間枠で開催されるセッションも多く(なんやねん!DOUBLE FEATUREって!笑)、すでにプログラム破綻してんじゃないか?説(いい意味です。褒めてます)

とりあえずnote書いて、後悔w

Config2023とは?

もはや必要ない気もするけど一応説明。

Figmaの年次イベントは年に2回あって、前半(春から夏前)に「デザイン」そのものがテーマのConfig(今回のイベント)、秋に「デザインシステム」がテーマのSchemaの年2回実施されています。

各国にFigmaのオフィスが出来てから各国で個別にイベントとかも開催される機会も多くなっているようなので、そろそろこのスキームも変わりそうな気もしますが、ひとまず年2回世界中のデザイン好きが集まるイベント(日本だと「Figma好き」イベントな印象があるかな?思ったりしますが、これは個人の感想です)

今年は、モスコーニで開催

今年の Config 2023は、6/21・6/22の2日間(日本時間では6/22・6/23)、サンフランシスコ、モスコーニ・センターでの開催です。開発者にはお馴染みの場所ですね。

サンフランシスコの現地会場への参加費はUS$499(当初は早期割引価格だったけど、結局お値段据え置きになったみたいです)、オンラインでのバーチャル視聴参加は無料

セッション動画は後日公開

毎年のことですが、Deep Diveやワークショップ以外のセッション動画のアーカイブ動画はその日のうちに config.figma.com で公開されるそうです。バーチャル参加へ登録してない人もその日のうちに視聴できるかはわかりません(今までの感じだと数週間後に一般公開?)

日本人向け現地参加コミュニティ

ConfigやSchemaへの日本からの参加者が少しずつ増えているとはいえ、まだまだ少ない状態。トビ / KazuhiroTobita (@0b1tk)さんが、TwitterでCommunity作ってるので、心細い人は是非参加して連携しておくと良いかもしれない。

こちらは現地に参加できない人向け。まだ2回目ですがもはや恒例になりつつあるFigma Japan主催のWatch Party、今回も開催。Figma❤️にあふれる人がリアルに集まってワイワイするイベントです。東京以外でもロンドンやパリでもWatch Party開催されます。

開催時間は、17:30〜21:00なので前夜祭ですね。訂正)DAY 1の夜です。

開催場所は、当選者にのみ連絡がいく方式(今回は虎ノ門近辺で開催だそうです)参加できると毎回山のようにグッヅもらえます。

日本のWatch Partyは、毎回東京で開催されてますが、秋のSchemaぐらいからはそろそろ東京以外でも開催されるんじゃないかなぁ?と個人的には感じています。

When you consider the number of publicly traded companies making decisions for consumers around the world—to think that nobody sitting in those boardrooms is thinking about user experience is absurd. Driving empathy and finding solutions is design’s super power, and it’s not enough to simply have a seat at the table; it’s design’s job to bring something new to it.

2-2. DESIGNOPS AT THE HEART OF CHANGE: CRAFTING THE INVISIBLE, HUMAN COMPONENTS OF TEAMS

As humans, we tend to be change-averse. Being a principal change instigator, DesignOps—when it’s represented at all in a design org—is often misunderstood, and seen as a necessary evil. But at the heart of every design organization’s desire to grow and mature, is the need to fundamentally change how it operates. It’s the recognition that our design teams are the real WIP. And our growth, at scale, is inextricably linked to building trust, partnerships and allyships. In this session, Aletheia “humanizes” the hidden work of DesignOps by showing how the practice creates an environment where design teams can thrive and drive impact at their company. Through reflective practice, the session will also discuss practical ways to adopt a DesignOps-minded approach in teams (even without a formal DesignOps title).

4-2. MAKE IT ACCESSIBLE AND INCLUSIVE, MAKE IT GREAT!

Accessibility and inclusivity have become key societal issues around the world in the last few years. Social networks and large international groups like GAFAM know how to reach large audiences by offering increasingly inclusive and innovative services. What about other major digital players who do not have the same means but are still convinced that accessibility and inclusivity have become essential? At CANAL+, accessibility has become a pillar of the company's strategy for the next few years, especially for myCANAL, our Live and VOD platform. Because it is available on many devices (mobile, tablet, desktop, TV, video game console) and across various platforms (web, iOS, Android), making myCANAL compatible with all forms of disabilities, and more particularly visual disabilities, remains an incredible challenge we try to meet every day. We would like to share a few initiatives we have worked on over the last 2 years to make video-watching accessible to as many people as possible.

The Capital One Enterprise Design System team soft-launched with an interactive onboarding and education playground to demonstrate the system’s visual appeal, advanced tooling, and robust support model. Playfully titled as the design system “flight simulator”, the Figma-based training tool prepared designers to take flight. The New York Times homepage and storytelling products are continuously evolving in response to a WIP world. The non-stop news cycle means teams need to make fast iterations on how to display our live news coverage, roll out and test new features quickly, and constantly iterate on our product. It requires a homepage system that is flexible enough to cover a wide range of impactful moments while still conveying news judgment and editorial hierarchy. In this talk, we will discuss how we, as product designers on The New York Times Home and Storytelling teams, react and respond to ever-changing newsroom and reader needs, balance speed-to-market with design quality, meet our business goals and collaborate with our cross-functional partners as well as with each other.

8. Putting joy on the roadmap

Since FigJam’s launch two years ago, the team has shipped dozens of features, big and small, to bring fun to working together virtually. High-fives, washi tape, cursor chat, reactions, stamps, stickers, and more. These features have made a huge impact on our community, as well as our internal motivation and energy. One question the team frequently gets is, how do we prioritize things that bring people joy, but don’t seem to push any sort of traditional success metric? And how do we work in a way that’s conducive to coming up with delightful ideas? In this session, we’ll share some behind-the-scenes from FigJam launches like April Fun Day, FigJam’s 1st birthday, Jam-o-ween, music player, and more. We’ll also share our own principles for delight, how you can put joy on your own roadmap, and why it’s more important than ever to do.

However, it’s challenging and difficult to get this right since tools aren’t readily available, and understanding the science behind this space is complicated. Thus, the tech industry still lags on improvements towards expressing and applying color to meet these challenges. Using the research I've put together from five years of deep design systems experience, I will share best practices and standards in creating color palettes at scale, lessons on the experimental science of color, and guidance on how designers should strategize and implement color in their design systems.

14-2. CONVERSATIONAL AI INTERFACE OPENS WINDOW ON AGING SOCIETY

The world, led by Japan, is becoming an aging society. No matter how digital systems are advancing, there are elderly people and individuals with physical limitations who have difficulties utilizing technology. Only one media is commonly used by all humans, and that is language. In this session Rakuten will talk about the great potential of Conversational AI interface and reminding challenges. Some people have difficulty understanding button operations for structures such as hierarchies, models, and views, which are commonplace for people who are used to using digital systems. Conversational AI is an interface that can overcome this barrier, join us to learn how!.

I remember laying in bed. Raising my hand up to turn off the light above me. The doctor had told me my disease wouldn’t impact my arms. That unlike my legs, my upper body would stay strong. In that moment I realized he was wrong. F*ck. I want to talk about working through hard situations, and how to move forward when you have no idea which way forward is. I don’t know if it will inspire you in any way. I can’t say you’ll feel good afterwards. But I can promise you it will be honest.

Twitterに買収されたフルサービスデジタルエージェンシーUenoやNPO団体Buenoのファウンダー、車椅子のデザイン伝道師Haraldurのセッション。困難の中、どう前進していくかのアドバイス。

Uenoは、2017年のESPN向けのBODY2017(様々なアスリートが全裸で惜しみなく肉体美を見せるまったく新しいメッセージ性を詰め込んたキャンペーン)が超話題になりました。
