``Grave of the Fireflies'' is a short story by Akiyoshi Nosaka, based on Nosaka's own war experiences. Set in the suburbs of Kobe City and Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture, a 14-year-old brother and a 4-year-old sister who lost their parents during the war desperately try to survive in the chaos around the end of the war, but their dreams do not come true. The story depicts a man dying tragically due to malnutrition.
