File.2 月のなまえ-Names of the moon

秋は夜が長い。
子どものお迎えの17時過ぎにはもう
すっかり真っ暗で、夜空を眺めながら
帰路につくことも多い。

東京の空は星がほとんど見えないけれど
月がキレイに見えると何だかとても趣深い
気持ちになる。そして同時に古式ゆかしい日本語を思い出す。

特に私が好きなのが「立待月（たちまちづき）」、「居待月（いまちづき）」、「寝待月（ねまちづき）」「更待月（ふけまちづき）」
月待ち系の満月から少しずつ欠けていく4日間の月。

立待ち月は「今か今かと立って待つうちに出る月」
居待ち月は,「居間などに座って待つ月」
寝待ち月は「出が遅く寝て待つ月」
更待月は「もっと出が遅く夜更けまで待ってようやく出る月」

・・・って、どれだけ月を待ってるんだいっｗｗ

世界の中でも日本人ほど月を好む人達はいないんじゃないだろうか。
でも、一つ一つの月に丁寧名前を付ける日本人の感性が好きだ。とても美しい日本語だと思う。

さて、今日の月は…

Autumn nights are long. By the time I pick up my kids after 5:00 PM, it's already completely dark, and I often make my way home while gazing at the night sky.

In Tokyo, it's hard to see many stars, but sometimes the moon looks beautiful, evoking a deep sense of elegance. At the same time, it brings to mind quaint Japanese expressions, particularly ones I like:
"Tachimachi-zuki" (the moon that appears while waiting, standing impatiently),
"Imachi-zuki" (the moon that one waits for while sitting indoors), "Nemachi-zuki" (the moon that one waits for, sleeping until it rises),
and "Fukemachi-zuki" (the moon that one waits for until late at night before finally appearing).
How long are you waiting for the moon in each case? I wonder if there is any other culture in the world that loves the moon as much as the Japanese. However, I appreciate the Japanese sensibility of giving careful names to each phase of the moon. I find it to be a very beautiful aspect of the Japanese language.
