読までき英文解釈_中級 14

読まないで、英文を読解しましょう。
「整理整頓」を心がければ、英文読解の大半をクリアできます。

次の文章の主語と述語を10秒以内に答えて下さい。
Economic disparity is widening in many countries around the world. A United Nations report released in 2019 points out that "about 33% of global wealth in 2017 was owned by the richest 1% of people."

STEP 1: 前置詞はどれですか？
Economic disparity is widening in many countries around the world. A United Nations report released in 2019 points out that "about 33% of global wealth in 2017 was owned by the richest 1% of people."

STEP 2: 「前置詞から、その前置詞が掛かる最後の名詞まで」を「消去」しましょう！

A United Nations report released points out that "about 33% was owned."

さあ、ここから「読まずにできる英文解釈」の次のステージに突入です！
まだ全然英文を読解してる気しないでしょ？
まだ暫く英文読解らしい作業は不要です。
手順を覚えれば、あなたの英語学習において、英文読解の多くの部分と「さよなら」できます。そして、英文読解の肝の部分だけを楽しめるようになるのです。（「英文解釈」と「英文読解」が混在してる理由は、いずれ説明します。）

さてさて、次のステージです！

STEP 3: to 不定詞節、that 節並びに隠れている that 節を復活させ、[   ]で特定しましょう！
このSTEPは、若干、通常の読解っぽいですね。
でも、コツを掴めば、つまり、「隠れているthat節を復活させ」る作業を何度か経験すれば、いずれ読解感はなくなります。

STEP 4: 特定した that 節を「消去」しましょう！

STEP 5: 主語と述語を特定しましょう！
一文目
主語 = Economic disparity
述語 = is widening

二文目
主語 = A United Nations report
述語 = points out

といった具合です。

はい。これで、英文読解は完了です。
ポイントは、「整理整頓」！
枝葉を刈り取れば、根幹（主語および述語）が勝手に浮かび上がってきます。
