Multicultural Disaster Prevention Workshop（2023.6.17）

東北大学災害科学国際研究所とうほくだいがくさいがいかがくこくさいけんきゅうじょ（IRIDeSイリディス）と仙台観光国際協会（SenTIA）が実施する防災研修で、参加者が多文化防災クイズにチャレンジしました。

Participants took a multicultural disaster prevention quiz at a disaster prevention workshop conducted by the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS) at Tohoku University and the Sendai Tourism, Convention and International Association (SenTIA).

参加者の多くは日本に来たばかりの留学生で、日本語でのコミュニケーションが難しい方もいましたが、同じテーブルの人が通訳をしてサポートするなどして研修は進められました。

Most of the participants were international students who had just arrived in Japan, and some had difficulty communicating in Japanese. So, the workshop was progressed with the support of people at the same table who interpreted for them.

防災研修に参加すること自体が新鮮な体験だった方も多かったようです。クイズでは「大きな揺れが起きたら、机やテーブルの下にもぐりましょう」といった基本的な防災知識を始めて学ぶ参加者もいました。

Participating in disaster prevention training was a new experience for many of the participants. Some participants took a quiz to learn basic disaster prevention knowledge for the first time, such as "If there is a big shake, get under a desk or table".

ワークショップ後は、仙台多文化共生センターから名取市閖上までバスで移動し、メイプル館でお昼休憩を取りました。
その後、震災遺構である仙台市立|荒浜小学校《あらはましょうがっこう》を訪問し、語り部のお話を聴きました。

After the workshop, the participants took a bus from the Sendai Multicultural Center to Yuriage, Natori City. We had a lunch break at the Maple Museum. After that, the group visited the Arahama Elementary School, which is one of the remains of the earthquake, and listened to a narrative by a storyteller.

仙台は留学生が多いまちなので、今回のように、仙台に来たばかりの留学生が防災について学ぶことができる機会を増やしていきたいですね。

Sendai is a city with many international students, so we would like to create more opportunities where international students who have just arrived in Sendai can learn about disaster prevention.
