Why do we close the curtain in the examination room?

A few years ago, my British friend told me she was uncomfortable when her gynaecologist  closed the curtain which was between her face and her doctor in the examination room.
She was wondering why he needed to close and wanted to see what he was going to do.

Have you held the same feeling before?

Especially in the hospital ( not really birth centre ),  in Japan,  they generally close it to not make you uncomfortable.
Some women might be extremely nervous in the hospital if they can see what their doctor do as they need to show their private area.

However, if you are uncomfortable with the closed curtain, just let your doctor, midwife or nurse know.
You don't need to put up with anything.
