Bathing a newborn in Japan -Umbilical stump-
I mentioned the level of water last time.
So if we fill the bath tub and let the baby take a bath, how do we take care of his umbilical stump?
Normally doctor or midwife tell parents that you could scrub the root of umbilical stump with your finger in the bath tub to make it clean, then dry with the cotton bud/swab really well.
However, in the some countries, generally, as long as the stump is clean, keeping it clean and dry and untouched by the sponge bath is the way to go. If there’s some crustiness, you can carefully wipe it clean with a clean, damp cloth, and then pat or air it dry.
There’s some divided opinion about washing Baby’s umbilical stump, so check in with the doctor if you’re unsure.
