Eric Andersen, 'Blue River' のレコード中袋 に印刷されていた詩を書いた、カナダのアーヴィング・レイトン（1912-2006）はすばらしい詩人です。

そこに載っていた詩 'There Were No Signs' を読んでみることにしましょう。

There Were No Signs

By walking I found out
Where I was going.

By intensely hating, how to love.
By loving, whom and what to love.

By grieving, how to laugh from the belly. 　　　　5

Out of infirmity, I have built strength.
Out of untruth, truth.
From hypocrisy, I weaved directness.

Almost now I know who I am,
Almost I have the boldness to be that man. 　　　10

Another step
And I shall be where I started from.
