What Young India Loves is STREET FOOD!

Young India is changing but one thing that has not changed is their love for street food. Indian street food is famous all over the world and why not? Its tasty, full of flavours and fun.

Indian streets are a famous hangout place for the youth and the street food gives them one more to socialise. Whether its hanging out with friends after college at a bhel-puri stall in Mumbai or meeting a cousin over Tapri chai in Kolkatta the joy is of another kind. A medley of flavours is the Pani-puri a spicy snack popular all over India, that has a small round puri stuffed with green gram, potatoes and atleast two kinds of tangy watery sauces. The stuffed puri just bursts in your mouth and flavours tingle every cell of your body.

On the go snacks are popular too. Mumbai’s vada pav a close cousin to the American burger is the most popular snack with teenagers and adults, in Mumbai. The potato patties and a spicy chilli peeping out of the pav (bun) is tempting and tasty. It’s filling, cheap and easy to grab when one has to attend lectures, classes, catch up with friends and then rush home. Bhel-puri which is a snack made of puffed rice has atleast 10 things that go in. Onions, potatoes, cilantro, gram and what not. Shake, shake, mix and its ready to be devoured by teenagers. While different snacks are famous at different places the bhel-puri has got its own variation as the geography changes. Youngsters in Kolkata like their bhel-puri spiced with mustard oil while in the north the ingredients used are a tad spicier and crunchier.

Everyone loves the Dosa. A crispy rice and lentil pancake. Healthy and filing it comes with all kinds of toppings and is a favourite with the young crowd. Bangalore in India is dotted with mini Dosa stalls, a donut look alike vada and spongy fluffy idlis. All very healthy, inexpensive and easy to grab on the go. Smaller cities have their favourites too. Indore a bustling city in Central India will serve you mouth-watering jalebis that college goers love. Often accompanied by spicy and tangy poha (a flattened rice dish) that balances its sweet taste, Jalebis are a top favourite and now famous world over.
