こぎん刺し　Kogin-zashi

こぎん刺しが生まれたのは、
冬は雪が降り続き、最高気温がマイナスの日も多い青森県の津軽地方です。

そんな厳しく長い冬を迎える地方で、
女性たちが家族を思い、少しでも暖かく過ごせるようにと
藍色の麻布に白い木綿糸を刺したことが始まりです。

こぎん刺しを施すと、あたたかさと丈夫さを得ることができます。
衣服が自由になった江戸時代からこぎん刺しの文化は続いていて、
当時は模様の美しさを競って刺していたそうです。

制約のある暮らしの中で生まれた工夫と、楽しみ。
