敵の前で神を賛美しよう。

モアブ人とアモン人、および彼らに合流したアモン人の一部が、ヨシャパテと戦おうとして攻めて来た。

ヨシャパテは恐れて、ただひたすら主に求め、ユダ全国に断食を布告した。

（ヨシャパテの祈り）「私たちの神よ。あなたは彼らをさばいてくださらないのですか。私たちに立ち向かって来たこのおびただしい大軍に当たる力は、私たちにはありません。私たちとしては、どうすればよいかわかりません。ただ、あなたに私たちの目を注ぐのみです。」

「ユダのすべての人々とエルサレムの住民およびヨシャパテ王よ。よく聞きなさい。主はあなたがたに仰せられます。『あなたがたはこのおびただしい大軍のゆえに恐れてはならない。気落ちしてはならない。この戦いはあなたがたの戦いではなく、神の戦いであるから。

それから、ヨシャパテは民と相談し、主に向かって歌う者たち、聖なる飾り物を着けて賛美する者たちを任命した。彼らが武装した者の前に出て行って、こう歌うためであった。「主に感謝せよ。その恵みはとこしえまで。」

彼らが喜びの声、賛美の声をあげ始めたとき、主は伏兵を設けて、ユダに攻めて来たアモン人、モアブ人、セイル山の人々を襲わせたので、彼らは打ち負かされた。

歴代誌 第二 20:1-22

After this, the Moabites and Ammonites with some of the Meunites came to wage war against Jehoshaphat.

Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah.
…
Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lordsays to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouragedbecause of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.

After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lordand to praise him for the splendor of his[c] holinessas they went out at the head of the army, saying:
“Give thanks to the Lord,
    for his love endures forever.”
As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.
