Why I started practicing English 私が英語の練習を始めた理由
I will write about one of the reasons why I started practicing English.
I often watch videos of overseas professional surfers on YouTube.
They explain training methods and their lifestyle in the video. They speak simple English in such videos, so I, a beginner in English, can understand their words.
But one day, a female surfer spoke on video about her health and sponsorship deals. She used a lot of medical and legal terminology in the video. So I couldn't understand half of what was said.
I wanted to understand more of her words because I respect her. So I started practicing English.
Next, I will write about the second reason.
About six years ago, I wanted to study at graduate school while working. After talking to people who have earned multiple degrees, I thought that if I tried hard enough, I might be able to do it myself.
So, I researched the admission requirements of several graduate schools.Some graduate schools require applicants to submit documents proving their high level of English proficiency.I also learned that some graduate schools offer classes in English.
At that time, I didn't qualify. Also, I didn't think I could meet the admission requirements with just a little effort. So, I gave up on studying at graduate school.
However, if I keep practicing English, I might be able to get into graduate school in the future. I decided to continue practicing English until I get a chance.

私が英語の練習を始めた理由の一つを書きます。
私はYouTubeで海外のプロサーファーの動画をよく見ます。サーファーのトレーニング方法や生活習慣などが解説されていて、簡単な英語が使われているので、英語初心者の私でも理解できます。
でもある日、女性サーファーのビデオで、その人の健康状態とスポンサー契約について話がありました。そのビデオでは、多くの医学用語と法律用語が使われたので、私は言われたことの半分も理解できませんでした。
私は彼女を尊敬しているので、何が語られているのか、もっと理解したいと思いました。そこで私は英語の練習を始めました。
次に2つめの理由を書きます。
6年ほど前、私は働きながら大学院で学びたいと考えました。複数の学位を取得した人たちと話をするうちに、頑張れば自分にもできるかもしれないと思いました。
そこで、いくつかの大学院の入学要件を調べてみました。
大学院によっては、高い英語能力を証明する書類の提出を求めている場合があります。また、英語で授業を行っている大学院もあることを知りました。
当時の私には資格がありませんでした。また、少し努力をしたくらいで入学条件を満たせるとも思えませんでした。それで大学院への進学は諦めました。
でも、英語の練習を続ければ、将来的には大学院に進学できるかもしれません。私はチャンスが来るまで英語の練習を続けることにしました。
