2024/03/23(2)　脳とチップと再生医療

　おはようございます🙏
　私が標題のニュースに接したのは昨日、外出先の電車内ニュース（NHKトレインニュース）でした。

　昨日の、イーロン・マスク氏の関連するニュースよりもソースは約一年前になります。このテクノロジ(Chat-GPTと英語でよくやり取りすると'cybernetic enhancement'と出ますがここでは単にテクノロジとします)が有効なのは、脳性麻痺や脊椎損傷のケースでもある、と出てきました。

　SFがもはやSFではなくなる、SNFとでも言ったらよいのでしょうか。日進月歩が「秒進分歩」に変わるという、科学技術が幾何級数的に進歩する前提で、生命倫理や世論が受容に向けてそのあとを追いかける展開のようです。

　同じくChat-GPTとほぼ毎日対話を続けてみたこともあり、それまでウェブ上に蓄積された情報を拾ってきて整理してくれたようです。大まかな積算では、材料科学の発展もあり2030年代〜2050年代にかけて人間の身体機能を拡張する、QOLを高める、機器との融合、ここでいうテクノロジとの融合が社会に溶け込むようになるという試算でした。

　やはり倫理的、哲学的な問題も持ち上がり、逆に機器との融合した存在に対して純粋に生まれたままの人間存在とは何か、という逆の視点も出てくるらしいです。
　それは私が思うに、これまでの人類の歴史で「病気とは何か」を研究することによって「健康とは？」を追求する流れが生まれた道筋によく似ています。

　フランクリンが雷の正体を電気として避雷針を発明し、ファラデーが電流を発見し、ボルタが筋肉と電気の関係（→ガルバーニ）から電池を発明した。人体の運動や神経伝達は化学物質の移動・電位の変化で表現し制御できるようになった。心電計、筋電図、脳波計、筋電義手など。私たちの脳も神経のかたまりであり、その働きは電位の変化で表現し末梢を制御できるようになった。

　しかし、私たちの脳や中枢神経は人格やアイデンティティーの根源でありそこに手をつけることはいまだに議論は尽くされていない。精神障害が軽減し、認知機能が回復する未来は望ましい未来なのだろうか？

　身体は脳を支え、脳は身体を支える。そこで脳への影響とは人格やアイデンティティーに差し障ることであってはならない。議論がなされ尽くされる前に技術はいつも先へと先走りがちである。
