SNSでよく拝見していた笛美さんのご講演に参加しました！
ジェンダーを勉強している学生として、日本に生きる女性として、彼女の言葉に対しどう感じたのかをシェアさせていただきます。
笛美さん
30代のフェミニスト会社員。2019年から広告制作の仕事のかたわら、職場では言えないフェミニズムの話をSNSで発信し始める。2020年5月に投稿した「#検察庁法改正案に抗議します」と言うハッシュタグが1000万ツイートを超えるほどの広がりを見せ、国会で法案が廃案に。仕事で社会を変えたいと思いつつも進路を迷い中。いまはフェミニズムや政治について日常会話の中で話題にしていく「#今日のぶっこみ」という小さなアクションをルーティンにしています。

1. 苗美さんのストーリー
バリバリ総合職として自己を犠牲にして大好きな広告業をしながら、
上司には出世よりも結婚を促され
（「婚期を逃すな」や「卵子凍結したら？」などのセクハラも...）、
同僚女性は続々やめていき、
同僚男性は専業主婦のパートナーに家のことを全部やってもらいながら成功していく姿を見て、
「私は男性ほど働けず、女性のように結婚も子供もできず、生きていてごめんなさい」
と悩まれていた笛美さん。
その後海外インターンのご経験から
日本社会や会社での経験を通して、ご自身の中にあった「男性・女性はこう生きるべき」というジェンダー規範の捉え方が変化し、
勉強をしながらSNSでご自身の気づきをシェアする会社員フェミニストになられた、というストーリーが紹介されました。
2. 講演の全体像
「女性を男性の付属物ではなく1人の人間として安心して生きていける社会にしていくべきでは？」
というメッセージをもとに、
総合職・一般職、男性中心モデルの働き方、家父長制や女性蔑視など、
社会学やジェンダー学でも頻繁に使われる専門用語を丁寧にわかりやすい言葉で説明されていて、とても興味深いご講演でした。
3. My take
私は学生の立場で不平等やジェンダー問題について勉強していますが、主に論文や授業など学術的な文章からそれらを理解していることが多いです。
今回、実際に日本社会で差別やハラスメントをご経験され、そこからコミュニティを作ったり社会を変えようと尽力されている活動家の話を聞く機会は滅多になく、新鮮な衝撃がありました。
また、笛美さんはご自身の経験と日本・世界のフェミニズムの歴史、日本社会の作られ方など、様々な関連情報を絡めて講演を構成されていたので、ジェンダー問題への理解を多方面から深めることができました。
4. これからの社会のためにできることは
笛美さんは、日本でフェミ叩きがあるために、フェミニストとして周りに認識されることや、イベントに行ったりSNSで発信することるのも恐ろしかった、とおっしゃっていました。
誰もフェミニズムをサポートしている方が周りにいなかったそうです。
確かに、私も周りから、
「日本は男女平等なのになんでジェンダー勉強する意味なくね？」、
「女性は特権ばっかりもらってずるいよなー」、
「ジェンダーは学問じゃない」、
「フェミまじきもw」
など言われた経験があります。
でも、私は負けません。
私はアンチフェミのためではなく、現在、そして未来の世代のために研究をしています。
笛美さんがやっていらっしゃるように、
匿名でやってみたり、
大規模なイベントに参加してみたり、
SNSでシェアするなど
できることから始めてみて、味方を集めることはとっても重要だと感じます。
私は学生であるという立場が幸いして、運よくサポートしてくれる友人や先輩、コミュニティが沢山います。いつもありがとうございます。
こうして学んだことや考えたことをシェアすることで、少しでもジェンダーに興味がある方に届けば幸いです。

Today, I had the opportunity to attend a captivating lecture by Ms. Fuehmi, whom I've often come across on social media. As a student studying gender and a woman living in Japan, I felt compelled to share my thoughts on her powerful words.
Ms. Fuehmi is a feminist in her 30s and a company employee. In 2019, while working in advertising production, she began sharing her feminist stories on social media platforms as an outlet she couldn't express at work. One of her hashtags, "#Protest the proposed amendment to the Public Prosecutor's Office Law," gained immense traction with over 10 million tweets, leading to the repeal of the bill in the Diet. While still uncertain about her career path, she aims to bring about societal change through her work. She now engages in a routine of small actions called "#Bukkomi today" to initiate conversations about feminism and politics in her daily life.

1. Ms. Fuehmi's personal story
During her lecture, Ms. Fuehmi shared her personal story. Working in the advertising industry she loved, she faced discouragement from her boss, who prioritized marriage over promotion. She encountered instances of sexual harassment, such as being told not to miss her wedding date and to consider freezing her eggs.
Meanwhile, her female colleagues quit one after another, while male coworkers thrived, with their housewives taking care of everything at home.
Feeling inadequate compared to men and burdened by societal expectations, Ms. Fuehmi experienced a deep sense of frustration.
Her perspective which was impacted by Japanese society, her company, and gender norms shifted after an internship abroad.
She began to question the notion that men and women should adhere to predefined roles.
This led her to embrace feminism and share her findings on social media while continuing her studies.
2. What was taught in the lecture?
The central theme of her lecture was the need to create a society where women can live as autonomous individuals rather than mere accessories to men.
Ms. Fuehmi eloquently explained various technical terms frequently used in sociology and gender studies, such as career track/general employment (Ippan-shoku 一般職 and Sougou-shoku 総合職 in Japanese), the male-centered model of work, patriarchy, and the disrespect women face.
Her ability to present complex concepts in easily understandable language made the lecture highly engaging.
3. My take
As a student researching inequality and gender issues, I predominantly rely on academic texts, articles, and classes to gain understanding. It was refreshing to hear from an activist who has personally experienced discrimination and harassment in Japanese society and is actively working to build a community and effect change.
The lecture had a profound impact on me.
Ms. Fuehmi skillfully intertwined her personal experiences with a wealth of related information, including the history of feminism in Japan and worldwide, as well as the construction of Japanese society. This approach allowed me to gain a comprehensive understanding of gender issues from multiple perspectives.
4. For the next generation
During the lecture, Ms. Fuehmi expressed her fear of being labeled a feminist in Japan and her hesitation to attend events or engage on social media due to the derogatory terms associated with feminism. She felt a lack of support from those around her.
I can relate to her experience, as I've encountered similar responses when discussing gender-related topics. People have dismissed the significance of studying gender by claiming that men and women are equal in Japan, or they've made comments like, "Women enjoy all the privileges; it's not fair," "Gender is not a valid academic subject," or "Feminists are all gross."
Despite these challenges, I refuse to be deterred. My research focuses on promoting gender equality, not against any particular group. It is driven by my desire to contribute to the present and future generations.
Like Ms. Fuehmi, I recognize the importance of building allies and taking small steps, even anonymously, participating in large events, and sharing knowledge on social media.
I am grateful to be surrounded by supportive friends, seniors, and a community that stands behind me. Their encouragement keeps me motivated.
Through sharing my thoughts and insights, I hope to reach those who are even remotely interested in gender issues, fostering greater understanding and dialogue.
