登録数50万人のYouTubeに出演

日本の社会問題を英語で発信するYoutuberであるNobitaさんにインタビューして頂きました。話した内容の95%くらいはカットされていますが、最も伝えたかったことは英語教育の諸悪の根源はシステムの問題ということです。そして最後に言語を学ぶメリットをお伝えしました。

The textbooks are made based on the university entrance exam, that means if the exam is not globalized. If you cannot change the exam, nothing will change.

Many Japanese companies praise high TOEIC scores, which is a Japanese exam, that is only used within the Asian region and only focus on passive skills such as listening and reading. From my perspective, students would gain more benefits studying towards a globally recognized exam such as the TOEFL or IELTS.

One of the biggest issues is that teachers don’t get enough time or resources. They also have to manage after-school activities and they can’t focus solely on their teaching. This means that teachers don’t have the flexibility to participate in professional development and they don’t have time to give mutual feedback. That I think is necessary to improve their teaching techniques.

We didn’t have to speak English since Japan has been quite successful in terms of its economics and business. But the times have changed. And with the COVID-19, this change has been accelerated. In today’s world, information is first published in English. Japanese people have to wait for this information to be translated, which means we will fall behind. So yes, reading and writing is important. But being able to speak English allows you to connect, express, and discuss with people from diverse backgrounds. So I think it’s quite beneficial.
