コルビー氏に完全に賛成。中国の軍事力が既にアジア太平洋地域のアメリカの軍事力を凌いでいると認識している日本人は少ない。日本には中国を未だに過小評価している人が多い。日本の軍事力強化の必要性を理解している人も多いが、敵基地攻撃能力の強化や空母増設など、不必要な装備強化を主張する傾向にある。日本に本当に必要なのは、短距離ミサイルを南西諸島に大量配備すること。
日本では少子高齢化が進み、国家予算の34％を占める社会保障費が軍事力強化の障害となっている。日本はハイテク兵器への拘りを改め、大量の機雷、ドローン、短距離ミサイルなどのローテク兵器を増やすことで、人民解放軍ののA2/AD戦略に対応しなければならない。

I totally agree with Dr. Colby. Few Japanese are aware that China's military power has already surpassed that of the US in the Asia-Pacific region. There are many people in Japan who still underestimate China. There are many people who understand the need to strengthen Japan's military power, but they tend to insist on unnecessary equipment enhancements, such as strengthening enemy base attack capabilities and adding aircraft carriers. What Japan really needs to do is to deploy a large number of short-range missiles to the Ryukyu Islands.
Japan's declining and aging population, and social security expenses, which account for 34% of the national budget, are obstacles to strengthen our military. Japan must change its focus on high-tech weapons and respond to PLA's A2/AD strategy by increasing low-tech weapons including a large numbers of mines, drones, short-range missiles.
