福島の原発事故から12年。まだ帰還困難区域が広がっているが、多くの場所で除染作業がおこなわれ、建物はリノベーションが進んでいた。しかし、ひとが戻ってこない。見えない放射能の恐怖は、当時と変わらぬままだった。
本作では原子核理学専門の科学者の協力で1897年に物理学者チャールズ・ウィルソンが発明した見えない放射線を可視化する装置「霧箱」を再現し、除染されていない土地の土を地元住民らと採取。 その土から射出される放射線を宇宙に見立て、「放射線のプラネタリウム」を作っていく。 東電や原発を信じてきた村役場職員や、科学の力で地域を再生してきた物理学者のインタビューを交えながら、見えない存在 / 問題を可視化する。
放射能とは何か。原発が社会にもたらしたものは何だったのか。 原発事故から12年、100年前の科学で “放射能”を解き明かせ。
Twelve years have passed since the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
Though the exclusion zone continues to exist, most places have been decontaminated, and progress is being made on renovating the buildings. Still, people are yet to come back. Fears of invisible radiation have not changed since the disaster.
For this work, I collaborated with a nuclear physicist to recreate a "cloud chamber," a device used to visualise radiation invented in 1897 by the physicist Charles Wilson. Together with local residents, I collected soil from decontaminated land, then created "Radiation Planetarium" by drawing parallels between the radiation emitted by the soil and outer space. Through interviewing village officials who trusted TEPCO and nuclear power and physicists who have used science to revive the region, I visualise invisible presences and problems.
What is radiation? What has nuclear power done for our society? Twelve years after the nuclear disaster and utilising science from a hundred years ago, it is time to shed light on the mysteries of radioactivity.

1984年埼玉県生まれ。社会の分断を抱えた地域でフィールドワークをおこない、ドキュメンタリーとフィクションを往来する映画やインスタレーションを制作。近年はマイノリティの窮状、在日外国人の生活環境などに関心を抱き、当事者や専門家を交えて現代社会の抜け道を模索する。 主な展覧会に「超能力と不透明な共同体」（津市久居アルスプラザ、三重、2022）、「奥能登国際芸術祭」（石川、2017）、「第13回ジャカルタビエンナーレ」（インドネシア国立ギャラリー、ジャカルタ、2009）。カルチャー誌「STUDIO VOICE」で執筆。2017年度文化庁新進芸術家海外研修員、2019年度ポーラ美術振興財団在外研修員、2023年度川村文化芸術振興財団SEA支援助成受賞。現在埼玉県とインドネシアを拠点に活動中。
Artist, Filmmaker, Born in 1984, Saitama, Japan. He is an accomplished artist and film director, with a focus on creating mockumentary films that address social issues prevalent in Japan, such as the nuclear power issue and discrimination against foreign trainees. In 2017-2018, he was granted a one year fellowship to research and create in Thailand by the Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists program sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of the Japanese Government, which sends artists of proven talent abroad. In 2019-2020, he was granted a one year fellowship to research and create in Indonesia by the POLA Art Foundation. Select exhibitions include ”Psychics and invisible community” (Tsu City Hisai Ars Plaza, Mie, 2022), “Oku-Noto Triennale” (Ishikawa, 2017), “Jakarta Biennale XIII ARENA” (Indonesian National Gallery, Jakarta, 2009).
