能装束一枚一枚が大きな存在として身に重なる。【能楽 装束】 Each Noh costume is a big presence.

日本の伝統文化・芸能を「YouTube」で紹介する事業がスタートした。
国内はもちろんだが、海外にも「日本の伝統(Nipon no Dento)」を動画で発信していく企画である。その第一弾が「能楽」。日本の最古の演劇といわれる伝統芸能「能」を、観世流シテ方 林本大氏のご協力で撮影取材をしている。

A business to introduce Japanese traditional culture and performing arts on "YouTube" has started.
It is a plan to disseminate "Japanese tradition (Nipon no Dento)" not only in Japan but also overseas. The first is "Noh". The traditional performing art "Noh", which is said to be the oldest theater in Japan, is being photographed and interviewed with the cooperation of Mr. Dai Hayashimoto, a Kanze school shite.

先日の取材テーマが「装束(しょうぞく)」。今回、筆者が装束を実際に着させていただき、視聴者にわかりやすく理解していただくための実演だった。
装束は女武者「巴(ともえ)御前」のものである。巴御前は、木曽義仲の愛妾で、女の身ゆえ義仲の最期を共にできなかったという恨みに、衣装(甲冑)を着て長刀をたずさえ、義仲との思い出を語るシーンの装束である。

The theme of the other day's interview was "Shozoku". This time, it was a demonstration for the author to actually put on the costume and have the viewer understand it in an easy-to-understand manner.
The costume is that of the female warrior "Tomoe Gozen". Tomoe Gozen is a concubine of Yoshinaka Kiso, and is dressed in a scene where she talks about her memories with Yoshinaka, even wearing a costume (armor) and wearing a long sword, in the grudge that she could not share the end of Yoshinaka because she was a woman.

その装束を舞台の上で着せていただいたわけである。本来なら着付け方は2名で行うのだが、今回は林本氏お一人でしていただいた。

I wore that costume on the stage. Originally, the dressing method was done by two people, but this time Mr. Hayashimoto was alone.

写真を見ていただいてのとおり、能装束のなかで、巴御前のように女性の役柄に用いる装束は、とくに繊細で美しい。代表的なものには、金糸・銀糸・色糸をふんだんに使い立体的な模様を織り出す「唐織」や、刺繍と金銀の箔を摺ることで模様を出す「縫箔」である。

As you can see in the photo, among the Noh costumes, the costumes used for female roles like Tomoe Gozen are particularly delicate and beautiful. Typical examples are "Karaori", which uses abundant gold thread, silver thread, and colored thread to create a three-dimensional pattern, and "Nuihaku", which creates a pattern by rubbing embroidery and gold and silver foil.

装束をつけていくごとに身が締められていく。大きな存在のものを一つひとつ身に付けていくことで、すべての思いや気迫が積み重なっていく。プロの演者の方たちは、その瞬間から役柄の人物になっていくのが、なんとなくではあるが感じることができた実演だった。

When I put on noh costume, I get tighter. By wearing the big ones one by one, all the thoughts and spirits will accumulate. It was a demonstration that I could feel that the professional performers became characters of the role from that moment.
