雲龍院の随所で見る「菊花紋章」。 【雲龍院Ⅴ】 “Chrysanthemum emblem" seen anywhere in Unryuin.

神社仏閣にお参りすると、菊の御紋を見かけることがある。それは、天皇家と所縁のある証として随所に「菊花紋章」が表現されている。神社でいえば、ご存じ伊勢神宮。寺院では泉涌寺が天皇家のお墓を守る菩提寺である。泉涌寺は御寺と呼ばれ、月輪陵(つきのわのみさぎ)、後月輪陵(のちのつきのわのみさぎ)が泉涌寺の山内にあり、天皇家の歴代陵墓として拝所になっている。

When you visit a shrine or temple, you may see a chrysanthemum crest. The "Chrysanthemum emblem" is displayed anywhere as a proof that it is related to the Emperor's family. Speaking of shrines, you know Ise Jingu. In the temple, Sennyu-ji is the bodhi temple that preserves the grave of the imperial family. Sengakuji Temple is called Mitera, and the Tsukiwa-no-Misagi and the Nochi-no-Tsukiwa-no-Misagi are located in the hilly area of the Sennyu-ji Temple.

その所縁のある泉涌寺や別院でも「菊花御紋」が随所に表されている。雲龍院でも中庭の石灯籠を中心に菊の御紋が敷かれている。白砂利を使っての菊は美しい、の一言である。

The " Chrysanthemum(Kikuka Gomon)" can be seen anywhere in Sennyu-ji Temple, where it is closely related. In Unryu-in, chrysanthemum patterns are spread around the stone lanterns in the courtyard. A chrysanthemum made from white gravel is beautiful.

なぜ、菊が天皇家の紋章になったのだろう、という疑問がわいた。菊は、日本では古くから野に咲く花という印象が強い。一年を通し、最後に咲くのが菊であり、庶民的なイメージで人目を惹くような華やかさを持った花ではないと思うが・・。

I wondered why the chrysanthemum became the emblem of the imperial family. The chrysanthemum has a strong impression that it is a flower that blooms in the field in Japan since ancient times. I think that chrysanthemums are the last to bloom throughout the year, and it is not a flower that has a gorgeous and eye-catching image with a common image.

資料によると、仁徳天皇の時代に、中国からこれまでとは全く違う形の菊が日本に入ってきた。その形は、いまで言う大菊といわれる種類で、当時、大きくて華やかな花を咲かせる菊として人々を魅了した。
そして、その菊が天皇家の御紋として正式に採用されたのは、平安時代に入って後鳥羽上皇の代になってからのようである。とりわけ菊の花を愛した後鳥羽上皇が、天皇家の調度品などに菊の紋を使用するようになり、それが天皇家の御紋につながっていった。

雲龍院を訪ねるたびに思うのだが、非日常空間で “心の体操” をさせていただいている。心に響く、また心を整える時空間が揃っているように思う。

Every time I visit Unryuin, I think that I do physical exercises in an extraordinary space. I think that the time and space that resonates with my heart and prepare my heart are complete.
