大仙院で枯山水庭園を堪能 Enjoy the Karesansui Garden at Daisenin

昨年のお彼岸の中日に西本願寺参拝したあと、大徳寺まで足を延ばした。その目的のひとつが大仙院の名勝である庭園を見ることだった。国の史跡・特別名勝に指定されている方丈の東北庭（庭園）と、国の名勝に指定された南庭を久しぶりに見たく訪ねた。

After visiting Nishi Hongan-ji Temple on the midday of the cluster amaryllis last year, I went to Daitoku-ji Temple. One of the purposes was to see the garden, a scenic spot in Daisenin. For a long time, I visited the Tohoku garden (garden), which is designated as a national scenic spot and special scenic spot, and the south garden, which is designated as a national scenic spot.

30坪の小さな庭園だか室町時代を代表する枯山水庭園である。本堂（方丈）の書院の間の北から東にかけて築庭されている。中国の蓬莱山から流れ落ちる滝が大海に流れ込む様を表現。滝、橋、舟などをすべて石で表し、狭い面積に広大な景観をイメージして造られている。禅庭の全てが凝縮されている特別な庭である。

It is a small garden of 30 tsubo, and it is a Karesansui garden that represents the Muromachi period. The garden is built from north to east between the Shoin in the main hall. A waterfall that flows down from Mt. Horai in China flows into the ocean. The waterfalls, bridges, boats, etc. are all represented by stones, and it is made in the image of a vast landscape in a small area. It is a special garden where everything in the Zen garden is condensed.

蓬莱山からの水を修行僧にたとえ、堰を超え中海を通り大海にそそぎ入り、悟りの境地へ入る様を表している、といわれている。
われわれには見えぬ世界が、庭園を通し果てしなく広がっていく。
残念ながら撮影は禁止なので、大仙院の門前と、十二代目住職の桃林宋園長老にお会いし、並んで写真を撮っていただいた。長老の笑顔にすくわれ、肩の力が抜けたようだった。

It is said that the water from Mt. Horai is compared to a monk to pray over the weir, over the Nakaumi, into the ocean, and into the state of enlightenment.
A world invisible to us extends endlessly through the garden.
Unfortunately, shooting is prohibited, so I met Daizenin and the 12th generation chief priest Tohrin Soen, and they took pictures side by side. It seemed that was scooped by the elder’s smile
