Chapter 1
"川は流れている"ってことはそこにある水はいちいち変わっている。
その川のヨドミでできる泡もできては消えて、消えてはできて、
人間や家も似たようなもんで。
きれいで豪華な都市では、タワマンが並んで高さを競ってるけど、
金持ちの家にしろ貧乏人の家にしろ、昔から先祖代々おんなじ家に住んでる人のほうがレアケースで。
去年燃えたのが今年建てなおされていたり、
一軒家がアパートに建てかえられていたりする。

住んでる人もおんなじで、
場所は変わらず、人も多いのに、
昔から知ってる人は20~30人に2~3人くらいになっていて、
朝に死んでる人もいれば、夕方に生まれてる赤ちゃんもいて、まるでさっきの”例の泡”みたいで、
よくわかんないけど、いつの間にか生まれたり死んだりしていて、どっかから来てどっか行ってる。
よくわかんないけど、どーせ壊れる建物が、誰かのために悩んだり、なんかのために着飾ったりしている。

こういう人間と家が忙しく変わっていく感じは、
朝顔と水滴の関係と似ていて、
水滴がついていないのに咲いている朝顔が、そのうち日光で枯れちゃったり、
枯れている朝顔についた水滴が、夕方には蒸発しちゃってたりする。

Whether it's a rich person's house or a poor person's house, it's a rare case that people live in the same house for generations.
A house that burned down last year has been rebuilt this year, or a house has been turned into an apartment.

The people who live there are the same.
The place is still the same, there are still many people, but the number of people you know from the past is only 2 or 3 out of every 20 or 30 people.
Some people die in the morning, some babies are born in the evening, it's like the "bubble" that we saw earlier.
I don't know what's going on, but before I know it, they're being born and dying, coming from somewhere else and going somewhere else.
I don't know what it is, but a building that is going to be destroyed anyway is being troubled for someone, or being dressed up for something.

This kind of busy change of people and houses is like the relationship between a morning glory and a drop of water.
The morning glories that are blooming without water droplets on them will eventually wither in the sunlight.
And the water droplets on the withering morning glories will evaporate in the evening.

1. 行く川の流れは絶えずして
行く川の流れは絶えずして、しかも、もとの水にあらず。
淀みに浮かぶうたかたかは、かつ消え、かつ結びて、久しくとどまりたるためしなし。
世の中にある、人と栖と、またかくのごとし。
玉敷きの都の内に、棟を並べ、甍を争へる、高き賤しき人の住まひは、世々を経て尽きせぬものなれど、これをまことかと尋ぬれば、昔ありし家はまれなり。
あるいは、去年焼けて、今年作れり。
あるいは、大家滅びて、小家となる。

住む人もこれに同じ。
所も変はらず、人も多かれど、いにしへ見し人は、二、三十人が中に、僅かに一人二人なり。
朝に死に、夕べに生まるる慣らひ、ただ水の泡にぞ似たりける。
知らず、生まれ死ぬる人、いづ方より来りて、いづ方へか去る。
また知らず、仮の宿り、誰がためにか心を悩まし、何によりてか目を喜ばしむる。

その、主と栖と、無常を争ふさま、言はば、朝霧の露に異ならず。
あるいは、露落ちて、花残れり。
残るといへども、朝日に枯れぬ。
あるいは、花しぼみて、露なほ消えず。
消えずといへども、夕べを待つことなし。
