　1180年(治承４年)４月には、中御門ｰ京極交差点付近で大きなつむじ風が起きて、六条大通りまで吹いた。
　3,4区画を吹きまくり、その中の家は全部壊れた。ぺしゃんこになったのもあるし、梁や柱だけ残ったものもあった。門を4,5区画ほど吹き飛ばしたり、塀を壊してお隣さんと一緒にしちゃったりした。家の中の資財は全部空に舞い上がり、ヒノキやスギの屋根材は、まるで冬に木の葉が散る様子にそっくりだった。塵を煙のように巻き上げるので何も見えないし、音はめちゃくちゃうるさいので何か話しても聞きとれない。地獄に吹いているとされる業風も、こんな感じだと思う。家が壊れただけではなくて、修理してる間にけがをしたり、手足を失った人は数知れない。このつむじ風は南南西の方角に移動していき、たくさんの人を悲しませた。
　つむじ風はたびたび起こるけれど、ここまでひどいものはなかった、これはただ事ではない。神や仏のお告げかと思った。

Chapter 3
　In April 1180, there was a big whirlwind near the Nakamimon - Kyogoku intersection that blew all the way to Rokujo Main Street.
　It blew around three or four blocks, and all the houses in the area were destroyed. Some of them were flattened, while others were left with only beams and pillars. The wind blew the gates off four or five sections of the house, broke down the fence and joined the neighbors. All the treasures inside the houses were flung up into the sky, and the cypress and cedar roofing materials looked just like the leaves falling off the trees in winter. I couldn't see anything because the dust was billowing up like smoke, and I couldn't hear anything being said because the noise was so loud. I think the karma wind that is said to be blowing in hell is like this. Not only have houses been destroyed, but countless people have been injured or lost limbs while trying to repair them. This whirlwind moved in a south-southwest direction, causing a lot of grief for many people.
　Whirlwinds happen often, but never this bad, this is no ordinary occurrence. I thought it was a sign from God or Buddha.

　また治承四年卯月廿九日のころ、中の御門京極のほどより、大なるつじかぜ起りて、六條わたりまで、いかめしく吹きけること侍りき。三四町をかけて吹きまくるに、その中にこもれる家ども、大なるもちひさきも、一つとしてやぶれざるはなし。さながらひらにたふれたるもあり。けたはしらばかり殘れるもあり。又門の上を吹き放ちて、四五町がほど（ほかイ）に置き、又垣を吹き拂ひて、隣と一つになせり。いはむや家の内のたから、數をつくして空にあがり、ひはだぶき板のたぐひ、冬の木の葉の風に亂るゝがごとし。塵を煙のごとく吹き立てたれば、すべて目も見えず。おびたゞしくなりとよむ音に、物いふ聲も聞えず。かの地獄の業風なりとも、かばかりにとぞ覺ゆる。家の損亡するのみならず、これをとり繕ふ間に、身をそこなひて、かたはづけるもの數を知らず。この風ひつじさるのかたに移り行きて、多くの人のなげきをなせり。つじかぜはつねに吹くものなれど、かゝることやはある。たゞごとにあらず。さるべき物のさとしかなとぞ疑ひ侍りし。』
