Christmas Gift. - Dec. 24, 2023.

For Christmas, I'm giving my love the poetry collection "サラダ記念日" by Machi Tawara. I chose this because I once told her that the day she made apple pies was an "apple pie anniversary" since hers were the best! We've decided to save 5000 yen for future trips and limit our Christmas gifts to 500 yen each. Wondering what would be the perfect gift, I finally decided to visit a bookstore and pick a novel she might like. Even though I'm more into books and she's into architecture, I thought a book would be a nice gift.

Re-reading Tawara's poems, I was struck by how they reflect the simple, everyday life that we live. I love not just striving for our goals but also the relaxing times we share. Spending time with her has made me appreciate these moments more. Despite the time gap between when the poetry was written and our lives, I find discussing our thoughts about literature, including the differences, fascinating. I want to treasure our everyday life, and I hope she doesn't read this note before I give her the gift!
