今回のお題は【うっせえわ】です。

It's a song that has been popular in Japan since the last year.
昨年から流行っている、あの、歌です。

I heard this song for the first time at a supermarket.
私が初めてこの曲聞いたのはスーパーでした。

"What, wait, is this popular now? People must be really stressed out to love such song."
「え、これ流行ってんの。みんなストレス溜まってんのかな。」

That's what I thought when I heard the song.
歌を聞いたときはそう思いました。

But just recently, I read some articles about the song.
しかし最近、この歌に関しての記事を読む機会がありました。

You must be really stressed out.
You are of course about to say
"Shut the f*** up."
ふむ、なるほど。
あれしろ、これしろ
あれやるな、これやるな
そんなん言われ続けたらストレス溜まって
言いたくなっちゃうよね
「うっせえわ」
と。

Well, this is closely related to Japanese culture, which respects older ones and prefers people who show their thoughtfulness without being told to do so.
これは目上の方を尊重するとか、気が利くことが好まれる、日本の文化にも関わることかなとも思います。
So I can't say easy one-sided opinion here.
なのでこの歌に関して単純に批評できるものではないのですが。

But in this day and age.
しかし今日に至り。
The fact that we, adults, let young ones complaining about the very same thing that we might have complained is so lame.
私達大人が、若者たちに、私達が若かりし頃不満を言ったであろう同じ不満を言わせているのは「だっせえわ」。

It's not
♪"shut up, shut up, shut the f*** up,"
but it's
♪"lame, lame, we're such lame."
That's what I thought.
そう、うっせえわ、じゃなく、
だっせえわ、と思ってしまいました。

The song reminds me of my manager several years ago.
この歌を聴いて、私は自分のかつての上司を思い出しました。
I was one of the young employees who are likely to be told "Pour drinks when glasses are empty."
Instead of telling me so, my manager told me this:
当時の私はいかにも「酒が空いたグラスあれば直ぐに注ぎなさい」と言われそうな新入社員でした。
しかし私の上司は代わりにこう言ったのです。
"At a drinking party, it is good for you to care about older ones such as pouring drinks for them.
They will have a good time, and you will give them a good impression.
Nothing is bad, right?
But if you don't want to do that, it's ok.
I will leave it up to you."
「飲みの席で雰囲気良くするのはいいことだよ。

Yeah, she was an amazing manager.
素晴らしい上司で良かったな、と思います。

Some people tell others what to do without telling them "why."
なぜそれをすべきか、理由を伝えずに、すべきことだけを伝える人もいます。

I think it is important to tell people "why" they need to do so when you want them to do things.
人に何かをして欲しい時、なぜ、そうして欲しいのか。「なぜ」を伝えるのは大切だと思うのです。

And it is also important to question rules and norms sometimes, instead of just following them.
そして時にはルールや慣習自体を疑ってみるのも大切だと思うのです、ただ従うだけではなく。

In that way, together we can make our society better, I think.
そうしたら社会はより良くなるんじゃないかなとか思うわけです。
