イギリス生活12週目のふりかえり。
この記事を書いているのはなぜか13週目なのだが、ここ2週間続く特殊な磁場の影響で時空が歪んでしまったらしい。
記憶がなさすぎて、直近2回の記事がめちゃ内容薄いのはごめんなさい笑
もうイギリスに来て3ヶ月経ったのですねぇ。

1週間のスケジュール
◯土曜〜日曜
土曜の朝は6時に起床。
朝7時から、1件仕事関連のMTGを行う。
その後はひたすら英語の課題と、仕事関連の課題を行なっていた。
仕事関連の課題は、エントリーのために必要なものだったのだが、なかなかに歯応えがあり、先週末からかなり時間を使ってしまっている。
詳細は割愛するが、とあるスポーツ業界の仕事で、4職種の募集がかかっていた。それぞれの職種ごとに250字の英文課題が5つくらい出題されるのだが、これがなかなかに難しい。
実際の仕事で起きうる判断の難しいシチュエーションについて、詳細かつ具体的にどのように対処するのかを英文で書かなければいけない。
ただし、それぞれの課題の内容も良いし、選考も人種や国籍などのバイアスがかからないような特殊なプロセスで進められていく。
エントリーするだけでも勉強になるし、選考プロセスの結果がどうであれ、エントリー課題に対するフィードバックなども後日送ってくれるそうだ。
ちなみに、日曜日もほぼ同じようなスケジュール。
英文課題を取り組む中で、自身のライティングスキルが上がっていくことを感じたし、英文を作る力も少しずつ伸びてきているような気がする。
先週はロンドン滞在後に英語力の低下を感じていたため、少し自信を回復させることができた。

今週は進捗テストの週。
この週のテストの結果で、次のレベルに上がれるかどうかが決まる。週頭の月曜日は、テストに備えて先週とこれまでの授業の復習を行った。
授業後メールをチェックしていると、CVが通過して、面接のセッティングをお願いしたいとのメールが来ていた。
先週末にエントリーしたIT企業で、なるべく早いうちに面接できるように日程調整をして欲しいとのこと。
この企業はエージェント経由で紹介されたので、色々と裏事情や選考の特徴、対策方法なども教えてもらえた。ただし、面接まで時間がなく、なんと知らせが来た翌日に英語で面接が行われることになった。
本番まであまり時間がないのだが、できる限り企業のことを調べたり、準備する必要がある。そのため、授業後は直帰して明日に備えて諸々の準備をすることになった。

この日は学校を欠席し、朝から夕方まで面接対策をしていた。
エージェントによると、CVの経歴が評価されたようで、通過率10%？程のところを通過できたのだそうだ。
特にイベントのマネジメント経験を求めているそうで、その辺りにフォーカスして準備しておくと良いとのこと。
新規事業の担当者の求人だったので、前例のない仕事などを推し進める力なども求められているらしい。
他にも求人内容から読み取れる仕事内容や人物像をイメージしながら、過去の経験を英語で語る練習を改めて行なった。
そうこうしていると、あっという間に本番時間になってしまった。
聞かれた質問は以下だ。（記憶している範囲で）

上記質問が全て英語で行われ、適宜深掘りの質問などを聞かれた。先週の面接よりは落ち着いて英語を話せた気がするのだが、なんともわからない。
想定質問のようなものをエージェント経由でいただいていたのだが、どちらかというと個人のことやトラブルシューティングについて深掘りして聞かれた。
今後に活かせることとしては、想定質問と実際の質問の間に結構乖離があったため、より詳細に企業や求人内容を把握した上で、聞かれるであろう質問の予測精度を上げていきたい。

本日は朝7時に起床。
昨日は欠席したが、本日は授業へと向かう。
午前中はボキャブラリーの授業で、政治や社会問題についての語彙を学んだ。自分の英語力が少しずつ進歩してきたからかはわからないが、自分的には少し簡単だなと思えるくらいにはなってきた。
授業中、講師の方の話を集中して聞かなくても、授業に置いていかれなくなったし、リスニングの時とスピーキングの時、最初の頃のようなストレスがなくなってきた。
明日は上のクラスに行くためのテストがあるので、そこで良い結果が出せるようにしたい。

今日はそんなに良い日ではなかった笑
まず、火曜の選考に通過できなかったからだ。
具体的には以下のようなフィードバック。
顧客や社内開発チームとの高いコミュニケーション力が必要な仕事のため、それを実証する能力をもう少し具体的に示して欲しかった
とのこと。
いくつか思い当たる節がある。それが以下の質問だ。
・これまでのキャリアで一番大変だったことは何ですか。
・その時のあなたの役割について、もっと詳しく教えてください。
上記二つの質問に対する自分の回答に問題があったかなと思う。自分のキャリアで大変だったことというより、会社視点で大変だったことに重点を置いて語ってしまったなぁという反省がある。
おそらくこの質問の意図は、その人のトラブルへの対応の仕方や、他者とのコミュニケーション能力を測るものだったのだろう。
また、
・これまで顧客とどのように関係を築いてきましたか。
という質問については、他の質問と同じくらいのボリューム感で答えていなかったように思う。ただ、この質問がおそらくもっとも重要な質問の一つであったことは間違いない。
朝の学校に向かうバスの中で結果を見て、ふりかえりつつも次に活かそうと感じた。
学校に着いてからは、更に上のクラスに行くための進捗確認テストを行う。正直なところ、手応えはイマイチだった。6週間前のテストよりも、リーディングの文章が難しく、そこに時間を使ってしまった。
もちろん問題も難しくなっているのだが、特にリーディングが失敗したなぁという感じ。
一方で、リスニングは前回よりも聞こえるようになったなと感じる。日々英語に触れ続けていることや、映画など含めて多様な題材で英語に触れていることが有効に働いている気がする。
パソコンで行うオンラインのテストなので、テスト完了後すぐに結果が表示される。結果は予想通りといえば予想通りだった。
リーディングは知らない単語や複雑な構文が出てきて大変だなぁと思っていたので、その結果がテストにも反映されていた。（ちょい下がった。。）
一方で、リスニングは手応え通りスコアが伸びた。
文法は前回とほぼ同じ。
テストとはつくづく正直なものだなぁと思う。
ただし、テスト後に講師の方と話し合った際は、決して悪くないスコアだと言われた。むしろ、次月が最終月でもあるから、更にもう一段階上のクラスに行っても良いのではと提案をもらった。
普段の授業時のテストも悪くないため、上のクラスの空き状況なども踏まえて週末に決めるとのこと。
もし更に一段階上のクラスに上がれた場合は、入学当初に目標としていたレベルに到達できることになる。結果がどうなろうと、引き続き頑張りたい。
放課後は無料のピザ作り体験があったので参加してみた。作るのは簡単なのに、めちゃめちゃ美味しい。釜の力か。。
そして、明日はイギリスに来た当初からお世話になったルームメイトが卒業する日なので、放課後共にサッカーをしに行き、蹴り納めとした。

この日はルームメイトの卒業日。かつ、かなりバタバタした一日だった。
朝から授業→休み時間に日本とイギリスをオンラインで繋ぐイベントを実施→昼休みにルームメイトの卒業を見届ける→そのままロンドンに移動
というスケジュールだ。
週末にロンドンで仕事があるため、今日のうちに移動しておかなければいけなかったのだ。
イベントに関しては、短時間ではあるもののとても面白かった。日本の子どもたちに海外での暮らしの様子を紹介したり、英語でのコミュニケーションをとってもらう機会を作れたことは良かった。
余談だが、イベントに協力してくれたクラスメイトのメキシコ人が二人いる。どちらも19歳で、メキシコでトップの大学に進学する学生たちだ。
彼らは英語が堪能で、色々な面において非常に優秀な学生。かつ、国際問題に関心があり、世界に目が向いていて視野が広い。
他の機会で一緒になった生徒たちも、16歳のイタリア人で英語ペラペラ、17歳のチェコ人の学生で英語ペラペラ、19歳でアンゴラ国籍で英語ペラペラなど、若いのに語学スペックが高い人が多い。
そうした学生を見ると、日本の生徒たちにも、もっと世界と繋がったり、世界を意識するような機会を作れたら良いなと感じる。
自分自身が刺激をもらう良い機会になった。
授業後は、ルームメイトの卒業をお祝い。最終的に目標とする英語レベルに達することができたようで、とても嬉しそうだった。
またいつか会えたら良いなと思う。

そしてそのまま、夕方からはロンドンへ。
前回同様に電車を使って2時間半くらいかけて到着。前回よりも土地勘があるため、スムーズに移動することができた。
週末だったので少し足を伸ばし、ロンドンのテムズ川周辺を観光してからホテルに到着。バタバタしつつも、充実した一日だった。

・最近は天気が良い
6月に入り、徐々に雨も減り、温度も上がってきた。永遠にこのままでいてくれ！！笑
・思考力は言語力に比例する
全員が全員ではないと思うが、自分は上記のような傾向がある。
最近はなるべく英語で考えたりする時間を増やしているのだが、その際に言語力がないと、思考力が鈍ってしまう感じがある。こう考えたい、こう表現したいと思っても、頭の中に英語が浮かばず、思考が鈍る。
こうしたことに改めて自覚的になれるのも、言語学習の面白さだと感じる。
・英語力が上がる感覚について
改めて、英語力の伸びは直線的ではなく、曲線的だなと感じる。だからこそ、上手くいかない日も気にし過ぎず、ポジティブに継続するしかない。
自分の場合は劇的に伸びた！と感じる瞬間があるわけではないが、たまにそれに近い瞬間がある。
来週の目標
卒業時の目標を達成する（C1レベル）
→具体的にはリーディング強化。リスニング教材のレベルを上げたり、一部の苦手な英文法（仮定法）などの復習にも取り組んでおきたい。
リーディングの強化
これまで学んだ単語を復習する、専門的な単語や歯応えのある文章が載った単語帳に取り組む、複雑な構文の英文を読み解く、幅広いトピックの記事に触れる（苦手な分野は読みにくいため）英英辞書を使うなどに取り組みたい。
英語で思考する習慣付け
先ほどの英英辞書を使う話にも通ずるが、特にライティングやスピーキングの時にこの習慣が活きる気がする。
継続的な選考対策
CVは徐々にブラッシュアップされてきたと思うので、面接の想定質問をより詳細に作りつつ、エントリーを続けたい。
スケジュールとタスクをより明確かつ詳細にする
最近スケジュールとやるべきタスクが間延びしている気がしているので、もう少し詳細に詰めたい。
