白一色ジャケットから「WHITE ALBUM」と呼ばれています。
ビートルズは、1968年1月（1967年12月説あり）に、自分たちの会社「Apple Corps 」を設立しました。そのレコードレーベルが「Apple Records 」です。そして、これがその第一弾アルバムというわけです。２枚組30曲の大作です。
同時期の英国バンドに、「THE WHO 」がいます。私の好きなバンドの一つです。「THE WHO」の楽曲を、音楽評論家が「うるさいだけのバンド」みたいに酷評したのを、ポールが、だったらもっとうるさい曲を書いてやると言って作ったのが、この「HELTER SKELTER」です。確かに、けたたましいヘビメタです。このめちゃくちゃ感のある曲が書けるポールの才能も凄いです。リンゴがドラム叩きすぎて、最後に「I’ve got blisters on my fingers」＝「指にマメができたよ」って言ってますね。
因みに、「HELTER SKELTER」は、イギリスの縁日に出る螺旋状の滑り台のことです。「狼狽」、「混乱」という意味もあります。
