スラッシュリーディングを/言語学的に/考える (2ʹ)｜構成素テスト演習問題

前回の記事で紹介した構成素テストについて、ホワイトボードを使って視覚的により分かりやすく解説した授業動画を YouTubeにアップしました：

これらを踏まえて、本記事では２つの構成素テスト：Fragment testと Substitution testを用いて、特定の単語の羅列が文の中で意味のまとまりを成しているかを調べ、適切な位置にスラッシュを入れていく演習問題を出してみます。 

問題

The intelligent student of linguistics with black hair always eats extremely hot Indian curry at lunchtime.
「知的な黒髪の言語学の学生は、いつも昼に激辛のインドカレーを食べる。」

問1

上の例文において、以下の(1)~(10)が構成素であるか、それぞれ Fragment testと Substitution testを用いて検討しなさい。

【注】：いずれかのテストが適用しにくい場合もあるため、「いずれかの構成素テストに pass → 構成素である」（ただし逆は必ずしも真ならず）の原則を判断の基準にしてください。

(1) the intelligent student
(2) the intelligent student of linguistics with black hair
(3) linguistics with black hair

Hint: (10)では代用形 (pro-form)として ‘one’を用います。

問1の結果を踏まえ、上の例文の適切な位置にスラッシュを入れ、意味のまとまりごとに区切りなさい。

【注】：唯一絶対的な“正解”が存在する問題ではありません。「できるだけ大きなまとまりを意識して、構成素と構成素の間で区切る」という原則を考えてください。

問1

(1) the intelligent student

正解：×（この文での構成素ではない）

Fragment Test
以下に見るように、問題の例文に対して the intelligent studentだけを取り出して答えとできるような疑問文を作ることはできません：

A: *Who of linguistics with black hair always eats extremely hot Indian curry for lunch?
B: *The intelligent student.

Substitution Test
同様に、the intelligent studentだけを代名詞 he/she/theyに置き換えても、後に of linguistics with black hairが残る形は英語として不適であるため、こちらのテストでも「構成素ではない」という判断ができます：

*{He/She/They} of linguistics with black hair always eats extremely hot Indian curry for lunch.

注：この theyは、性別を区別しない単数を受ける代名詞としての用法を想定しています。

(2) the intelligent student of linguistics with black hair

正解：◎（この文での構成素である）

Fragment Test
以下の通り、Whoから始まる疑問文に対する過不足ない答えとして成立します：

A: Who always eats extremely hot Indian curry for lunch?
B: The intelligent student of linguistics with black hair.

Substitution Test
the intelligent student of linguistics with black hairは、丸々 he/she/theyで置き換えることができるので、構成素であると判断できます：

{He/She/They} always eats extremely hot Indian curry for lunch.

(3) linguistics with black hair

正解：×

Fragment Test
どう頑張っても、linguistics with black hair「黒髪の言語学(!?)」の部分だけが答えになるような疑問文を作ることはできません。

Substitution Test
こちらも、linguistics with black hairを、たとえば itで置き換えるというわけにはいきません。ちなみに "student of it"のように引用符つきで Google検索すると、student of IT「IT（情報技術）の学生」の例の方がヒットします。
