大阪・関西万博：2024年4月22日（月）
2025年4月13日から10月13日までの6ヵ月間，大阪のベイエリアに位置する夢洲で大阪・関西万博が開催される予定である。夢洲は，ある意味で，大変な歴史を持っていて，語るに忍びない。
もともと，夢洲は，1970年代に大阪市が浚渫土，建設残土，一般ごみの処分場不足を解決するために，埋め立て地として整備し，その後，埋め立てをおこなった場所である。1980年代には，この埋め立て後の跡地利用として「テクノポート大阪」の計画を発表したが，日本経済のバブル崩壊に伴い計画が頓挫，1990年代には夢洲を選手村とする2008年の夏季の大阪オリンピック構想を進めたが，2001年のIOC総会で北京に敗れ，2008年に「テクノポート大阪」は正式に白紙撤回された。
三度目の正直として，今から6年前の2018年に，2025年国際博覧会の会場が大阪・関西万博として大阪に決定し，夢洲が万博会場となった。2025年国際博覧会の会場が大阪に決定される４年前の2014年から2016年の間に，この夢洲は当時の大阪市長であった橋下徹氏らが中心となって夢洲をカジノを含む統合型リゾート（IR）を候補地として，万博誘致とIRとの一体的な開発の方針で進められてきた。
なんとかして，このように「負の遺産」として位置づけられてしまった夢洲を救ってくれる人はいないのだろうかとつくづく思ってしまう次第である。
Osaka-Kansai Expo：April 22nd (Monday)
The Osaka-Kansai Expo is scheduled to be held in Yumeshima, located in the Bay Area of Osaka, for six months from April 13th to October 13th, 2025. Yumeshima, in a sense, has a significant history that is hard to overlook.
Originally, Yumeshima was developed as a landfill site by Osaka City in the 1970s to address the shortage of disposal sites for dredged soil, construction waste, and general garbage, and subsequently, it became a reclaimed land. In the 1980s, plans were announced for the utilization of this reclaimed land as "Technoport Osaka," but the plan was derailed due to the collapse of the Japanese economy's bubble. In the 1990s, efforts were made to promote the idea of the Osaka Olympics in the summer of 2008 with Yumeshima as the athletes' village, but it was defeated by Beijing at the IOC General Assembly in 2001, and "Technoport Osaka" was officially withdrawn in 2008.
As a third time's the charm, in 2018, six years ago from now, Osaka was chosen as the venue for the 2025 International Expo, which became the Osaka-Kansai Expo, and Yumeshima became the venue for the expo. Between 2014 and 2016, when Osaka was chosen as the venue for the 2025 International Expo, Yumeshima, which had been designated as a "negative legacy," had been promoted by then-Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto and others as a candidate site for an integrated resort (IR) including a casino, as part of a comprehensive development plan integrating the Expo and IR.
One can't help but wonder if there's anyone who can save Yumeshima, which has been positioned as such a "negative legacy."
