記念すべき第10弾は群馬県前橋市にあるSHIROIYA HOTEL / 白井屋ホテルです。

小宇宙的建築空間 / Microcosmic Architectural Space
「白井屋ホテル / SHIROIYA HOTEL」は前橋で300年以上もの歴史を誇る白井屋旅館の跡地、旧本館（RC構造４階建）の駆体を剥き出しにした吹き抜け空間にアート・食・宿泊の非日常を詰め込んだ「小宇宙的建築空間」でありながら、前橋の町にシームレスに溶け込んでいる不思議なホテル。
"SHIROIYA HOTEL" is a fascinating hotel that seamlessly blends into the town of MAEBASHI, while simultaneously serving as a "microcosmic architectural space" packed with extraordinary art, cuisine, and accommodation experiences. It is located on the site of the historic SHIROIYA RYOKAN(Japanese Inn), which boasts a history of over 300 years, and incorporates the stripped-down framework of the former main building (a four-story RC structure) into its open atrium space.
歴史 / History
創業から約300年、旧宮内庁御用達の「白井屋旅館」をルーツとし、1970年代にホテルへと業種変換したが、2008年には街の衰退とともに廃業を余儀なくされる。
その後建物自体を取り壊すことも計画されたが、2014年に前橋市の活性化活動を主導する田中仁財団によって買収。世界的建築家の藤本壮介氏を巻き込む形で６年半におよぶ大改修と新棟建設の一大プロジェクトがスタート。
2020年12月12日、「白井屋ホテル / SHIROIYA HOTEL」として再び歩みを始めることとなる。
Tracing its roots back to the "SHIROIYA Ryokan," which served the Imperial Household Agency for approximately 300 years since its founding, the establishment transitioned to a hotel business in the 1970s. However, in 2008, it was forced to close due to the town's decline.
Although there were plans to demolish the building, it was acquired in 2014 by the TANAKA HITOSHI FOUNDATION, which spearheads revitalization activities in MAEBASHI City. This led to a major six-and-a-half-year renovation and new building construction project involving world-renowned architect Sou Fujimoto. On December 12, 2020, it reopened as "SHIROIYA HOTEL," embarking on a new chapter.
「白井屋ホテル / SHIROIYA HOTEL」最大の魅力は、もともとあった床を取っ払い剥き出しになった駆体によって創り出された４階層にも及ぶ吹き抜け空間。そしてのその空間に差し込む光の下で味わえる食・アート・宿泊といった非日常体験の数々。
The main attraction of SHIROIYA HOTEL is the four-storey atrium space created by building frame that has been stripped bare of its original flooring. The light shining into this space creates a variety of extraordinary experiences, such as cuisine, art and accommodation.
食 / Cuisine
吹き抜け空間の麓にあるオールデイダイニング「the LOUNGE」では、季節によって変わる群馬県産の食材を使った全10品のワンプレートを朝食として頂くことができる。
At the base of the atrium space, the all-day dining venue "the LOUNGE" offers a breakfast consisting of a single plate featuring 10 dishes made with locally sourced ingredients from GUNMA Prefecture, which vary according to the season.
ホテル内にはパン屋さん「the BAKERY」や、 フルーツタルト屋さん「the PÂTISSERIE」といった施設も併設され、宿泊客だけでなく地元の人も自然と集まる空間を担っていると言える。大胆な吹き抜け空間からその見た目はやや異世界的でありながら、群馬の町にも溶け込んでいるというそのバランスがなんとも不思議な空間である。
The BAKERY and the PÂTISSERIE fruit tart shop are also located within the hotel, and are a natural meeting place for not only Tour guests but also locals. The bold atrium space gives it a somewhat otherworldly appearance, but the balance of blending in with the town of GUNMA makes it a very strange space.
芸術 / Art
吹き抜け空間を縫うように水道管のような、電線管のような発光するする真っ白なパイプが張り巡らせられている。レアンドロ・エルリッヒが手掛けた「ライティング・パイプ」だ。あたかも吹き抜けになる前の白井屋旅館時代に使われていた配管が、そのまま残り続けているかのような錯覚をももたらすアート作品だと感じた。
Stretching through the atrium space like water pipes or electrical conduits, there are luminous pure white pipes. These are the "Lighting Pipes" designed by Leandro Erlich. They create an illusion as if the piping used in the pre-atrium era of the SHIROIYA Ryokan is still in place, adding an artistic touch to the space.
そもそも、このホテルのリノベーション自体が建築家藤本壮介氏によるアートであることは言うまでもないが、館内には驚くほど多くのアート作品で溢れている。宿泊者限定ではあるが、一日に２回無料で館内アートツアーを開催氏ているので、是非参加してほしい。
The renovation of this hotel itself, spearheaded by architect Sosuke Fujimoto, is undoubtedly a work of art. However, the interior is also brimming with an astonishing array of artworks. While limited to hotel guests, complimentary guided art tours are held twice daily, so I highly encourage you to participate.
宿泊 / Accommodation
客室は全25部屋（全部屋25平米以上）。そのうち４部屋は特別なコンセプトルームとなっている。
１．ジャスパー・モリソン・ルーム
プロダクトデザイナー、ジャスパー・モリソンによるデザイン。
木に囲まれた客室、檜風呂が特徴的。
２．ミケーレ・デ・ルッキ・ルーム
イタリア人建築家、ミケーレ・デ・ルッキによるデザイン。
約3,000枚の木板を使った「板葺き」による光と影。
３．レアンドロ・エルリッヒ・ルーム
アーティスト、レアンドロ・エルリッヒによるデザイン。
吹き抜けに走るライティング・パイプを客室にまで拡張。
４．ソウ・フジモト・ルーム
ホテルの全体設計を務めた藤本壮介氏によるデザイン。
シックモダン×植物をつかい「めぶく。」を表現。
There are 25 rooms in total (all over 25 square metres). Four of them are special concept rooms.
1. the Jasper Morrison Room.
Designed by product designer Jasper Morrison.
The rooms are surrounded by wood and feature a cypress bath.
2, Michele De Lucchi Room.
Designed by Italian architect Michele De Lucchi.
Light and shadows created by ‘shingle roofing’ using approximately 3,000 wooden planks.
3.Leandro Erlich Room
Designed by artist Leandro Erlich.
Lighting pipes running into the atrium are extended into the rooms.
4. Sou Fujimoto Room
Designed by Sou Fujimoto, who also designed the entire hotel.
Chic modern design and use of plants to express ‘Mebuku. expression using chic modern and plants.
白井屋ホテル / SHIROIYA HOTEL
「白井屋ホテル / SHIROIYA HOTEL」は、リノベーションによって生み出された吹き抜け空間に食・アート・宿泊といったあらゆる非日常的なジャンルの要素が盛り込まれつつも前橋の町にシームレスに溶け込んでいる不思議な「箱」になっている。宿泊客は非日常を求めてこのホテルに来るし、地元の人がパンやケーキを買ったりお茶をしににふらっと立ち寄る。
そんな空間が前橋の町の原動力として今後も素敵なまちづくりの核であり続ける気がする。
"SHIROIYA HOTEL" has become a remarkable "BOX" seamlessly integrated into the town of Maebashi, while incorporating elements of various extraordinary genres such as food, art, and accommodation into the atrium space created by renovation. Guests come to this hotel seeking the extraordinary, while locals casually drop by to buy bread or cake or enjoy tea.
I feel that such a space will continue to be at the heart of creating a wonderful town in Maebashi, serving as a driving force for its future development.

2000年、神奈川県生まれ。
大学在学中にフリーランスのフォトグラファーとして活動を始め、建築を中心に大都市を舞台にした写真を撮影。
2023年3月には、建築物の幾何学的な模様に注目した個展「#キカガクケンチク展」を吉祥寺で開催。
その他デザイナーやZINEクリエイターとしても活動中。
2023年4月〜某スーパーゼネコン社員として働いています。
