It was held in Halifax dance studio. 

第一回目の舞踏ワークショップがハリファックスダンスで開催されました。

The studio is very clean, and mostly used by local ballet lessons for kids.

とてもきれいなスタジオ。主に地元の子供たちのバレエ教室に使われているようです。

I appreciate that many people joined this workshop, and they were very dedicated.

It was their first time to learn Butoh, but they enjoyed it by fully using their imagination.

Relax… It is easy to say, but hard to force it to the body. Some looked nervous unconsciously. Meeting people for the first time, it is not easy to relax. We care about others, feelings, atmosphere etc... It comes from their kindness.

After we spent time together, and laughed together, our bodies were totally relaxed in the end.

たくさんの方に参加して頂き、また熱心に取り組んで頂き感謝いたします。

最初に触れる舞踏。想像力をフルに働かせて楽しんでいたように感じました。

脱力すること。言うのは簡単ですが感じるのは難しいです。何人かは無意識のうちに力んでしまっているようにみえました。

はじめましての人たちと会う時にリラックスすることは容易ではありません。気を使い気持ちを察し空気を読みなどなど。それらは配慮からくるものです。

共に時間を過ごし共に笑ったり、最後には私達の体は言われなくてもリラックスしていました。

舞踏という非常に興味深い身体芸術をもっと学びたい方のために我妻恵美子による舞踏ワークショップを開催します。踊りの経験がなくても楽しんでご参加いただけます。

Butoh workshop by Emiko Agatsuma will be held for those who want to learn more about this very interesting physical art form. For all levels. No dance experience is necessary.

舞踏公演「Ladder 梯子」Butoh performance (28, 29 June)

カナダ・ハリファックスの芸術家Miya Turnbull によるお面のアートと日本の舞踏家我妻恵美子による共同制作の舞台が6月28日から29日、ハリファックスのバスストップシアターにて行われます。日系カナダ人の歴史をテーマに3ヶ月間リサーチと創作を重ね、語られることのなかった深い悲しみや愛情を身体で表現します。Gozu Mezu(杉山仁志)による今回のためのオリジナル曲の生演奏も相まって、大迫力の舞台となります。どうぞお見逃しなく！

Miya Turnbull (Halifax based Mask Maker) and Emiko Agatsuma (Tokyo based Butoh Dancer) collaborate and perform at the Bus Stop Theatre in Halifax on June 28-29. After 3 months of research and creation on the theme of Japanese-Canadian history, they will express with their bodies the deep emotions that have never been spoken of. The performance will be so powerful with live music by Gozu Mezu (Hitoshi Sugiyama), who will perform original pieces for "Ladder". Please do not miss it!

LADDER (2024) | Emiko Agatsuma×Miya Turnbull

このプロジェクトは日系カナダ人の歴史を通して文化的アイデンティティ、移民、世代間の違いといった重要なテーマを探求し、それによって見過ごされてきた歴史に光を当て、互いに学び合いながら新しい気づきを含んだ作品を創り出すことを目的としています。
Miya Turnbull によるお面のアートと我妻恵美子による舞踏が相互に影響を与え合うこの創作は、より多様で包括的な芸術観に貢献し、異文化理解と尊重を進めていきます。また、歴史への新たなアプローチや他分野とのコラボレーションを通じて、芸術における新たな価値の創造を目指します。

The purpose of "Ladder" is to explore important themes of cultural identity, immigration, and generational differences through the history of Japanese Canadians. The project aims to shed light on overlooked history, learn from each other, and create an innovative performance. The interactive creation between mask art by Miya Turnbull and Butoh dance by Emiko Agatsuma can contribute to a more diverse and inclusive outlook on the arts. This project will also promote cross-cultural understanding, respect, and collaboration with other fields of arts.
