英検1級を取った今、もっと早くやれば良かったこと。What I should've done earlier as an advanced English learner

やっぱりnoteで書く以上、少しずつ日本語でも書いてみようかと思います。面倒くさがりなので、たぶん全部日英では書けないけど、要点だけでも日本語で書いてみますね。で、英検1級を取った今、もっとこれをやっておけば良かったと思っていること、です。

For Eiken, I have only 1st grade as I wasn't interested in it when working as an office worker. Usually, people see friends and go on a date, not study for Eiken on weekends, am I right? Anyway, being a mom enabled me to hit the books while babysitting, and Eiken suddenly seemed something challenging for me 2-3 years ago. So I took it almost on a whim, although I tried to be prepared enough as I didn't want to take it twice. Luckily, I passed at my first challenge within the top 1% range, although I wasn't using English so often back then.
英検、1級以外はほぼ持っていないに等しいです。会社員時代は忙しかったし、子供が生まれて細切れの時間ができて、何かに挑戦したくて受けました。当時はほとんど英語を使っておらず、初受験で上位1％で合格できたのはラッキーでした（嫌味に聞こえたらすみません。準備はもちろん頑張りました）

Most English learners in Japan may think passing Eiken 1st grade is almost a goal as a learner, and after that, one doesn't need to study anymore. What happened for me, however, was totally different. I simply couldn't be satisfied with the test result, receiving the evaluation of pronunciation level seven out of ten. It was worse than expected, and I felt defeated as my ex-coworkers often complimented my pronunciation. So, receiving the score of Eiken has become almost the beginning of my relearning journey. 
多くの人は英検1級ってゴールだと認識していると思うのですが、私の場合、発音の評価が10点中7点だった事がショックで、実は英検1級に受かってから、改めて英語のやり直しが始まったんです。

It was clear that I should’ve practiced talking in English, hopefully with the correct pronunciation. Then I started using Cambly to communicate with native speakers more often. Also, speaking exams such as VERSANT and EPT (English Pronunciation Test) became my new KPI to track my proficiency. After investing a lot of resources, I finally took 70+ on Versant recently, but for EPT, I'm still struggling to get an instructor-level result. Obviously, I was ignorant of the importance of pronunciation before taking Eiken. 
とにかくもっと話さなくてはとCamblyを始めて、VERSANTやEPTを指標にしてたくさん練習しました。VERSANTは最近70点を超えましたが、EPTはまだ満足できるスコアは取れていません。発音は、本当にもっと早く始めるべきでした。

Also, it just came to my realization that I lack the experience of writing a wide range of topics. What I ever wrote were all the emails to negotiate, monitor, and inform something as an employee. Although, of course, sometimes I text my friends and write something really brief like a gratitude journal, I'm sure I should enjoy writing to hardwire my feelings expressed in English into my brain to refine overall skills.
あとはやっぱり、英語を楽しんで書く機会がなさすぎました。仕事のメールくらいしか長文を書いてこなかったので、練習のためにnoteを始めたのが正直なところです。

If I were a beginner or intermediate-level learner, I would start working on my output skills with top priority. Especially, pronunciation is critical in terms of communication. So I highly recommend starting talking right now. Even if you don't have a partner, you can record your talk, or create your own podcast!
