November 11, 2023: Heineken （ハイネケン）

I was surprised to hear that Heineken, a Dutch brewery, began to market its new beer in Japan. It had marketed its regular beers in Japan a long time ago, but no success. So, they moved out of the market. At that time, its products were not competitive enough to compete with the Japanese rivals. But the brand is very familiar to me because I used to drink their beers a lot in the Netherlands which is their home country. As soon as living in the Netherlands, I found out how strong the brand was. It had almost captured the beer market there. Wherever we went in the country, I always found Heineken beers, and it was very hard to find other brands. So I used to have the brand in the Netherlands. The beer was different from the Japanese ones. When I first had it, it tasted so light that I felt like I was drinking water. But as I had it more and more, I got used to the taste and it tasted good. It was also affordable to buy. It cost as much as mineral water. So I used to drink it at weekends instead of mineral water. However, I have had no chance to try the brand since I was back in Japan. The brand was not marketed in Japan because it had no space in Japan. Japanese breweries have been as strong in Japan as Heineken is in the Dutch market. However, the brewery has changed its mind and decided to market its beer in Japan. I do not know exactly why, but it seems to be proud of its non-alcoholic beer, Heineken 0.0. It is said, on the internet, to be the world’s bestselling beer. I tried to get it at convenience stores near my home, but it was not yet available. It is available on Amazon, but I have to order it by the case. It is still a little risky to order by the case.
In addition, before I order it, I have to consult with my doctor to see if I may have it. Since I began to take drugs for high blood pressure, I have refrained from drinking alcohol. I will see him soon.

　オランダのビール会社・ハイネケンが日本で新しいビールの販売を始めたことを知りびっくりです。ハイネケンは、大昔に日本でビールを販売していたのですが、うまくいきませんでした。そのため、日本から撤退しました。その当時は、同社の商品には日本メーカーに対抗できるほどの競争力がありませんでした。
　でも、ハイネケンはボクには馴染みのあるブランドです。オランダに住んでいた時に、同社のビールを山ほど飲みました。オランダに住んでみて、ハイネケンがいかに強いかを思い知らされました。オランダのビール市場をほぼ独占していました。どこに行っても必ずハイネケンのビールがでてきました。他のブランドを見つけるのは至難の業で、ボクもオランダではハイネケンを飲んでいました。ハイネケンのビールは日本のものとは違いました。初めて飲んだときは、まるで水を飲んでいるように軽かったです。でも、何度も飲んでいるうちに、この味に慣れてきて、おいしく感じるようになりました。値段も手頃で、ミネラルウォーター並みでした。週末には水代わりにビールを飲んでいました。
　でも、日本に帰国してからは、このビールを飲む機会がありませんでした。日本市場では、ハイネケンが入る余地はありませんでした。ハイネケンがオランダ市場で強いように、日本では、国内のビールメーカーが強いためです。でも、気が変わったようで、日本でビールを販売を始めました。理由はよくわかりませんが、ハイネケン0.0というノンアルコールビールに自信があるようです。ネットの情報によると、世界で一番売れているビールのようです。自宅近くのコンビニで買おうとしましたが、まだ売っていませんでした。アマゾンでは買えるのですが、ケース単位で注文しなければなりません。ケースで注文するのは、まだ危険です。
また、注文する前にかかりつけのお医者さんに相談しなければなりません。高血圧の薬を飲み始めてからは、アルコールは控えています。近いうちに診察を受ける予定です。
