October 10, 2023: Who Are Main Customers? (2) (主なお客さんは誰？(2))

Yesterday, I wrote about the customers of a small restaurant in my town. I have wondered for a long time who the main customers were. Then I happened to find that they were Pachinko players. I, by chance, know it at a barber. I went to see a barber to have my hair cut one day. Then, I was suddenly tempted to ask him about the restaurant, because he knows a lot about my town: he knows about the people in my apartment better than I do. Then, as I had expected, he had an answer to my question. That is, I found out that the restaurant's main customers were havey Pachinko players. The players had always played Pachinko for half a day or all day at the Pachinko parlours near the restaurant. They were so crazy about playing Pachinko that they always tried to play it as long as possible. But they are not crazy enough to keep playing Pachinko without eating anything. When they get hungry, they always stop playing Pachinko and go out to the restaurant. They order and eat quickly and then go back to playing pachikon.
But times have changed. Pachiko is no longer as attractive as it used to be. As a result, the parlours have lost a lot of their customers including heavy players, which had a significant impact on the restaurant, too. The restaurant lost most of its customers, heavy Pachinko players and had to go out of business.

　昨日は、ボクの街の小さな食堂のお客さんのことを記事にしました。ずっと、この店の主なお客さんは誰だろうとずっと思っていました。そしたら、たまたま、パチンコをする人たちが主なお客さんだと分かったのです。それを知ったのは散髪屋さんでした。髪の毛を切ってもらおうと散髪屋に行ったのです。その時に、ふと、この食堂のことを聞いてみたくなったのです。この散髪屋さんは、町のことをなんでも知っているからです。ボクのマンションに住んでいる人のことも僕より知っているくらいです。そしたら、予想通り、ボクの質問に、食堂の主なお客さんはパチンコ屋さんのヘビープレイヤーだと教えてくれました。彼らは、食堂の近くのパチンコ屋でいつも、半日から丸一日パチンコをする人たちです。パチンコに熱中しているでの、できるだけ長くパチンコをしたいのですが、空腹には勝てません。おなかがすくと、いつも隣の食堂に行くのです。さっさと注文して食べ終え、またパチンコに戻ります。
　でも、時代は変わりました。パチンコは昔のほど人気がありません。そのため、近所のパチンコ屋からもお客さんがいなくなり、ヘビープレイヤーもいなくなりました。その結果、食堂が大きな影響を受けたのです。大事なお客さんだったヘビープレイヤーがいなくなったため、閉店せざるを得なかったのです。
