December 11, 2023: Studying Maths (30), Completing Square （数学の勉強（30）、平方完成）
I have just finished a technique called the completion of the square. It was very hard to understand. It was the toughest time I have ever studied maths. It took me about ten hours to solve just one quadratic equation by completing the square. I tried to solve it countless times during those ten hours, but could not. And I had lost my drive to keep doing it and was about to give it up. But at the last moment, just as I was about to give it up, I got something in my mind. That was a new idea to solve it. I tried it and then managed to solve it. At that moment, I was filled with great joy. This is why I cannot stop studying maths.
Lately, I have come to feel much happier solving problems in maths than in English. And I have become unable to finish a day without doing maths, just as I cannot end a day without writing an English article. I know that I am still at a very early stage of profound maths and that I will face many more difficulties. But I will continue to do maths and am determined to do it every day, no matter what.
「平方完成」を終えたところです。理解するのがとても難しかったです。今まで数学を勉強した中で一番大変でした。たった一つの二次方程式を平方完成で解くのに約10時間もかかりました。数え切れないほど解いてみましたが、解けませんでした。そして、続ける意欲がなくなり、諦めようかと思い始めました。でも、その瞬間、あることを思いつきました。方程式を解く新しいアイデアでした。それを試してみたら、なんとか解けました。その瞬間、大きな喜びに包まれました。これだから数学の勉強をやめられません。
最近は、英語よりも数学の問題を解くほうが楽しくなってきました。英語の記事を書かないと一日が終わらないように、数学をやらないと一日が終わらないようになってきました。自分は、奥の深い数学の初歩的な段階にいることは分かっています。そして、これからも多くの困難に直面することも。でも、これからも数学の勉強を続けるつもりだし、何があっても毎日やる決意です。
