EF English Liveのレッスンについて
まず、EF English Liveでは２種類のレッスンを受けることができます。
・講師と一対一の「プライベートレッスン」
・講師一人に対し、最大8名の生徒が同時に参加できる45分の「グループレッスン」
プライベートレッスン（以後”PL”と記述）
一般的には、「コースで学んだ内容を、PLで練習する」というのが基本的な活用方法となっています。
PLでは、既に学んだ単語や表現を知識だけにとどめず、実際の会話で使えるように講師と練習することができます。いわゆるインプットとアウトプットの繰り返しが、着実な成長に繋がります。
グループレッスン（以後”GL”と記述）
PL同様、今自分が学んでいるコースに関連したトピックのレッスンを受けることができます。
全てが全く同じではありませんが、ほとんどのGLでは次のような流れで進みます。
1. 簡単な自己紹介
2. トピックに関連した質問がいくつか投げかけられ、答える
3. 単語や表現を学ぶ
4. 練習問題を解く
5. 生徒同士による会話の練習
ただレッスンを聞くだけでも十分リスニングの練習になりますが、話す練習をするためには「積極性」と「瞬発力」が試されます。
すぐに回答が思いつかないような質問もありますが、いかに素早く簡潔に答えられるかを鍛える良い練習の場だと感じています。
レッスンの活用法と心構え
私自身、ある講師と毎週決まった曜日、時間帯にPLを受けています。しばらく定期的にレッスンを受けているうちに、毎週必ず自分のためにレッスンを確保してくれるようになりました。実はこれが一つのトリックで、講師が生徒のためにレッスンを予約することができます。
EF自体にそのようなサービスはありませんが、気に入った講師と直接メールでやり取りすれば、EFのサイト上では空きがなくても予約できる可能性があります。
もちろんレッスン内容についても自由です。あなたが取り組みたい内容、または克服したい苦手な分野などを伝えれば、あなたの希望に合わせた有意義なレッスンができるでしょう。
参考までに、いくつかアイデアを記載しておきます。
レッスンを受けるにあたって心がけていることがあります。毎回「今回はこのフレーズ・表現を使う」というフレーズをいくつか決めてレッスンに臨むということ。
会話の展開を予想し完璧に準備することはできませんが、使いたいフレーズを意識して、むしろ会話の主導権を握るくらいの気持ちで臨むと非常に効果的です。
こうして少しずつ表現の引き出しを増やしていき、自分のスピーキングにマンネリしないようにしています。

How Does the Class Work on EF?
First of all, they offer 2 types of class: a one-to-one class with your teacher, or a 45-minute group class with your teacher and a maximum of 8 students.
Private Classes (one-to-one classes)
In a private class, typically, you can practise what you’ve studied on the course so that you can actually use phrases or expressions in a real conversation. With keeping this process, it leads to improving your English steadily.
Group Classes
Same as private classes, you can take classes that are related to the topic you are working on.
Although every teacher has a different teaching style, most group classes proceed in the following way:
1. A brief introduction.
2. The teacher will ask students a relevant question about the topic.
3. Learn the target language.
4. Practise the target language in your sentences.
5. Students have a conversation with one another. (They are encouraged to use the target language as much as possible)
You can take the class as your listening practice just by listening to the teacher and students. However, to improve your speaking skills, it's crucial to be active and speak. Of course, some questions can be hard to think of and answer on the spot, it’s perhaps a good way to see how quickly you can respond to the question.
The Effective Way of Taking Classes + Things You Should Keep in Mind
I'm currently having private classes every week with my go-to teacher on the same day, at the same time. Since I first met her, I’ve kept having her class for a while. At some point, she kindly started to keep a space for me every week. This is actually one fact you might not know, but teachers can book a class for you even if you can’t find any slots free on the website. If you found some of your favourite EF’s teachers and want to have another class with them, all you have to do is email them and ask them if they have any time slots available. Hopefully, they can book a class for you. The topic is all up to you whether it’s something you would like to focus on doing or overcoming. I can guarantee you the class will be more satisfying. For your information, here are some ideas.
・An entire free talk.
・Bring one news or article you are interested in and discuss it.
・Work on some phrasal verbs or idioms.
・Write an English journal and get corrections or alternative suggestions from your teacher.
One thing I always keep in mind when taking classes is to try to use new expressions or an alternative way of saying as much as I can. This way helps me to expand my vocabulary and avoid getting stuck in a rut with my speaking.
