#３『アングロ・サクソン年代記』古英語－現代英語－日本語対訳「紀元１世紀」

今回は紀元1世紀についてみていく。毎年の記述があるわけではない。
Her[This year]は日本語訳では訳していない。聖書などに基づく話が多いので正確な年の判定はしていない。

青：ヘロデ朝ユダヤ

Octavianus ruled fifty-six years. In the forty-second year of his reign, Christ was born.
オクタウィアヌスは56年間統治した。治世42年目にキリストが生まれた。

¹アウグストゥスの称号をを得た時（事実上の帝政開始, 前27）から数えると40年間、第二次三頭政治結成時（オクタウィアヌスの台頭, 前43）から数えると56年間である。治世開始を前43とした場合、キリストが生まれたのは原文の治世42年目となる。

Then the astrologers came from the East to worship Christ. And the children in Bethlehem were killed because of the persecution by Herod. He died by stabbing himself and his son, Archelaus,  succeeded to the throne.
占星術師がキリストを礼拝するために東方からやってきた。ベツレヘムの子供たちがヘロデによって迫害のために殺された。ヘロデは自らを刺して死んだ。彼の息子Archelausが王位を継いだ。

²東方の三博士のこと。イエスに乳香、没薬、黄金を贈り物として捧げた。(贈り物の数から三人であるとした？）
³ヘロデ大王のこと。『マタイの福音書』によれば、彼は未来のユダヤの王（救世主イエス）の誕生を知らされ、それを恐れベツレヘムの幼子を全て殺させた。
⁴軽く調べた限りそのようなことは見つからなかった。情報も求む。
⁵アルケラオス。遺言で王位継承者に指名されたが紆余曲折あり、最終的に皇帝から「エスケルナス(民族の統治者)」として認められヘロデ大王領の半分の統治が認められた。

天地創造からこの年までには5200年が過ぎていることになっている。

フィリップスとヘロデはユダヤを四つの王国に分割した。

⁸４つに分割した（アルケラオス、アンティパス、フィリッポス、サロメ）のはヘロデ大王の死の直後であるため12年は誤り。

ローマ人の皇帝クラウディウスは軍とともにブリテンに出発しその島を征服し全ピクト人とブリトン人をローマの支配下に置いた。

¹⁸第4代皇帝。ブリタニア遠征は43年である。征服したのはブリテン島南部のみである。

He did this battle in the fourth year of his reign.
彼は治世4年目にこの戦いをした。

Then after Claudius Nero succeeded to the throne, who almost abandoned the island Britain because of his sloth.
クラウディウスの次にネロが帝位を継いだ。彼は自身の怠慢のせいでブリテン島を放棄しかけた。

²³後の皇帝。彼の治世にポンペイの噴火が起こる。
²⁴そもそも筆者の訳があっているかは分からないが、ヨセフスによると110万人が死んだという。11万でも110万でもありえそうにない数字である。
