#248【English】Morning Talk Resolutions

Good morning everyone! It's Tuesday, January 5th, and it's time for Amber's morning English talk. As I mentioned last week, I will be changing the format slightly for morning talk so that morning talks are a bit more coherent and maybe easy to listen to. I will be starting each week with a different theme and talk about small topics surrounding those themes each week!

So for my first topic of the New Year, I'd like to talk about resolutions for this week. Today I’ll explain what a New Year’s resolution is, and how sharing those resolutions with others can help you to reach your goals for the year.

To explain briefly, New Year's resolutions are firm decisions made on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day to do or not do something. It's almost like a sort of goal for the year. This idea of a New Year's resolution is the reason for so many people going to gyms to get fit in the month of January and February, or the reason for people to start buying more books to learn a new skill, or many other things. It gives people a reason to take action, and many times, people need a reason or excuse to take action.

The New Year is a good time for people to say “New Year, new me!”
It gives people a chance to get into new habits and try new things.

Yesterday we talked a little bit about New Year's resolutions in our live show. I think this was a very good topic to talk about with others. Saying your goals and aspirations to friends, family, and people you know tends to help motivate people to follow through with their words. It's not a perfect method, but most people don't like to lie to others, and so it can really help for people that are not as motivated to become a little bit more motivated. The best people you should share your goals with, however, are people that you believe are higher ranking than you, like a boss, manager, or someone you look up to. The reason behind this is because it makes you want to take responsibility for your words by taking action.

So this year, if you really want to reach your goal, or make some steps towards your goals, it may be worth sharing it with others, especially those that you look up to.

Now I’d like to end today’s morning talk with a question for anyone listening now.

Do you have any new goals for this year?

Feel free to leave your answer in the comments section below in English or Japanese and I’ll be sure to respond to them in the next morning talk.
